I do have a question... Which has a greater wingspan, and albatross, or a canadian goose? Actually, Penn State sells a variable speed motor, for around $150, that could make that lathe variable speed. Looks like a nice machine. Are you going to put a small layer of wax on it to make the tailstock and banjo slide easier and protect it from rusting? Rikon makes quality stuff.

I am looking at upgrading from my 70-100 now, not sure I like Rikon's next step up because you still have belt ranges even with speed dial, I think 3 different ranges, but just starting to look, maybe they are all like that. I do like the Midi size lathes though. I have had this one for about 8 years now and ready start doing more. Thanks for the video.

My Laguna is like that (3 belt locations) but I can get 80% (or more) of my work done in the middle gear because of the speed range there.

Whats the difference between a Midi lathe, and a Mini lathe
@FearsomeWarrior4 ай бұрын
Size. Midi is a medium mini. All about the swing and length. Many put it in the model name. 1221 is 12 swing and 21 length for example. Mini lathes are basically pens only.

Cracking review i have basically the same machine here in the UK i paid £330 for mine($400 ish) looks identical in every way apart from i have yhe variable speed on mine. But the non ejecting tail stock the plastic tray holder all the rest identical apart from i only have 3 belts for different speed ratios.

The tail stock ejection bothers me more than it should. But it's a good value unit nonetheless.

@@WoodenThingsAndStuff yea a agree mine bothers me aswell you'd think can't be that difficult 👍🏴🫣

How did you get the tool out of the tail stock when it did not self eject?

The handle bracket on the headstock side is a mystery to me. They want people to lift it by this or is it for holding tools somehow if you have it hanging past the end of a bench. You can fold it down and that is all weird.

I actually LOVE that handle, cuz I drag this guy in and out of a closet for each class, and it's at least one good spot to grab and lift.

As you know, I am looking for a lathe. Thanks for sharing, buddy. Bloopers are always a given, when creating content. Lol

You can't have too many lathes 😊.

Dunno about that. I can only use one at a time, and I can't watch more than two at a time while I'm teaching. Having said that...I am about to get one more to replace the one in my home shop with a better model. Haha
