I was The Vidyadhara, Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche´s student from 1972 onward. This video is pretty good; factual with minimal errors and distortion, a simple basic picture. A good snapshot of an incredible being. Thank you

I read somewhere that Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche's tale of escaping Tibet was fact-checked by analyzing his story and lining it up with actual mountain passes out of Tibet towards India and it is very likely real, making his especially harrowing tale of escape rival many dangerous Antarctic expeditions by Europeans in the 1800s where survival chances were slim. In those thin air altitudes with hundreds of miles of nothing but rocks and snow and ice, the few Tibetans who survived the journey were forced to eat the leather soles of their boots and end up starving anyway. He is definitely a hero for getting out despite the odds of being pursued by a Chinese army and then flinging open the doors to Tibetan Buddhism for the world once he was in a free land again.

Yes, how could Buddhism flourish without the hero. He was born for this. His purpose was to spread Buddhism for the benefit of all.

Absolutely, Uncle Sherab was also a wonderful master of Tibetan dance as well as one of the best Thangka artists that came to the west. He was also really one of the co-founders of Samye Ling alongside Trungpa, Akong Rinpoche and later Lama Yeshe.

By their deeds shall you know them. Never abandon wisdom or discernment. Let the magnitude and depth of compassion be your guide to testing the so-called “ master”. Yes, constantly test those who would test you!

I wish someone make a Hollywood movie or documentary on Him, The Greatest being on this Earth, master Trungpa Rinpoche. Just by hearing His name, my eyes fill with tears. His life is an inspiration in itself. The life of a refugee, high incarnated being, escaping the tentacles of Red communist China, struggling to adjust in a foreign society, spreading opening door of Buddhism for the west, intoxicating hippies with Dharma, crazy wisdom, his legacy, all these will make a great movie. His life is full of ingredients, there's laughs, tears, wisdom, compassion, strange, secret, openness and so on....

My honest opinion is that a life so unconventional and free of standarised ideas cannot fit into Hollywood's narrowed view of the world... it would come out trimmed out, artificially flavored to suit conventional thinking mind. Maybe some other route.

@@mastersofbuddhism I was a lay practitioner and volunteer worker living at Samye Ling and had the great privilege of receiving teachings and empowerments from Akong Rinpoche. I was there when he was killed in China in 2013. He was murdered by a mentally ill monk, it was nothing to do with politics.

This information forgot to mention that the first Dharma Centre was in Berwick Scotland as Trungpa said it reminded him of Tibet, the landscape etc. This place is now known as a place for females to ordain into Tibetan Buddhism as Nuns. From there he went to New England but I thought the woman he married was Scottish and not English. I was handed the book, The Myth of Freedom by an old friend who told me that everything I believed was in this book... and he was 100% correct... that was in New York City in 1983.. I still have that book.

@@mastersofbuddhism In the interests of historical accuracy the above account needs a few corrections. Trungpa and Akong Rinpoche together established the first Tibetan Buddhist Dharma centre at the former Theravadan Centre at Johnson House, Eskdalemuir, Scotland this, in turn, was consecrated as Samye Ling Monastery the first Tibetan Buddhist Monastery founded in the West in 1967. Samye Ling has always had Nuns as well as Monks as part of the Sangha at Samye Ling. Trungpa's first wife was Tibetan and his second wife English, Diana Mukpo. Trungpa was only at Samye Ling for two years before his path took him to the USA and Akong Rinpoche continued with the work of establishing Samye Ling as a monastery.

@@djsteel56 : I always thought his second wife was Scottish, however perhaps I just assumed that as they met in Scotland... Thanks for that. I knew a young Chinese girl from Penang Malaysia that went there, Scotland, to ordain as a Nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition many years ago, and she was such a beautiful young lady and I lived in Penang at that time and I used to visit the small wonderful restaurant that the Tibetan Community had, which sadly is no more. I guess the landscape of Scotland made him feel at home as its not unlike Tibet in parts.
