Andy Murray clinches the match to crown Great Britain Davis Cup by BNP Paribas champions for 2015!
Click here to subscribe - goo.gl/Kk1Ft
Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest annual international team competition in world sport. This prestigious event, which is one of the cornerstones of the tennis calendar, gives players the chance to represent their country in an otherwise individual sport.
Founded by Dwight Davis in 1900, Davis Cup began as a challenge match between USA and British Isles, which was held at the Longwood Cricket Club in Boston.
Davis himself played in the inaugural Davis Cup tie, steering his country to the first of many title victories. USA has won the Davis Cup 32 times - more than any other nation.

@@BetterHealthGuide. Yes, they are really are. But there's quite a big gap between AM and the next guy. He has a fantastic 2 Olympic golds, end of year title, No.1 ranking, 3 GS's (11 finals), 46 titles, $62M prize money. But he fell short of the Big 3 on the big stages...

12 boxing world champions at the moment, Lewis Hamilton three time F1 world champion, England women hockey team won the Euros, England finishing third at the women's Football World Cup, England won the Darts World Cup, now the Davis cup! It's been a great year for British sport! If I've missed something please feel free to add it in the comment below.
@bendubz9000

I meant team sports, as in individual events they're kinda doing it for themselves, and the Darts and Hockey isn't really reported on enough for it to have been brought to my attention. Obviously I was super proud of the women's football team, first time ever I've been alive to see England make the last round of matches at a senior international tournament, though since I was working on the Saturday night I couldn't watch the highlights of the 3rd place playoff until after the hysteria was over. Tbh I'm still gutted about Japan's late winner, we deserved to be in the final. Also I don't care too much about Cricket and I wasn't very old in 2003 so this is the first time I've ever cared about Britain or England being the best in the world at something.Pardon me if I get a little emotional about it.
@bendubz9000
@bendubz9000 8 жыл бұрын
At what point did I mention anything about it being purely England? I'm English, I'm allowed to be proud of English successes, but I'm also British (which by the way doesn't include Irish people, hence hwy it's GB & NI at the Olympics) so I'm allowed to be proud of British successes. If it was individual I wouldn't have got carried away. I didn't claim Murray as my own when he won Wimbledon or the US Open, only when he won Olympics Gold. Because it was doing it for himself the other times. Like whenever John Higgins wins the World Championship he isn't doing it for Scotland, he's doing it for himself. Using some of the examples given, it would be foolish of me to claim "We're the best in the world at Motor Racing!" or "We're the best in the world at Boxing!" because those titles weren't won for Britain or England, they were won for the individuals. For Hamilton, For Fury, For DeGale. This weekend the Murrays were representing Britain, as Edmund was, and as Ward would have been. Yes they won it for themselves but they also won it for us, so please just let me celebrate in peace.

We are definitely not the best at Tennis, in fact we are terrible considering the level of funding that has been invested over the last decade. This was the Andy Murray show, we have no else of actual world class talent. It was very clearly Andy Murray winning the Davis cup not Team GB, the rest were there merely to make up the numbers.

+andrew barbarash 1st things 1st....i think andy mirray is amazing and will go down in the hall of fame, and rightly so...but, Andy does NOT constitute a TEAM! A team does not win a team tournament because of ONE player.....They are all as equally as important as each other and had andy Murray been the only player and had still won all 11 games that he played he would not of won the Davis Cup! And let's not forget that Jamie was the 1st Scotsman/Britain to win wimbledon, he won the doubles before andy won the singles and has reached 3 grand slam finals! to say andy is the only world class player I think is a bit disrespectful to be fair. did Novak win....no did Nadal and Ferrer win....no did Roger and stan win..no did TEAM GB win........YES! when you lose, you lose as a team when you win you win as a team!

For those naysayers who depreciate Murray and think that he shouldn't be included in a Big 4 term, a tennis stats reminder - Only three players Agassi,Nadal and...MURRAY - have won Wimbledon,Davis Cup and the Olympic gold in tennis history !! Even all-time greats the likes of Borg, Ledl, Edberg,Becker,Sampras, FEDERER and DJOKOVIĆ have not completed ( still ) such magnitude of success in their CV !! I guess after the Davis cup glory auctioning with the conversation whether Andy Murray is or not Big 4 should lay to rest !

I would add that Murray makes his claim to being included in the big 4 of his time by the multiple grand slam finals (10) and wins (3), the number of ATP titles (46) the length of time in that top 4, including a period as World Number 1, 2 Olympic titles and the Davis Cup. If the number of slams won seems low, take into account that he had to win at the time that arguably the greatest 3 of all time were playing the game. You can only imagine what might have been possible in the late 90s with only one or two other greats (e.g. Sampras and periodically Agassi) being around.

@JamieJooESC
@JamieJooESC 6 жыл бұрын
reptongeek If a tie is already won by one team, say 3-0 or 3-1 with either both singles or the one singles match remaining, then it optional to play the remaining matches. But of course, both sides have to agree whether further matches, if the tie is already done, shall be played or not. If they are, it's a best of 3 match, not best of 5. Hope I made that clear.

Great player, Andy Murray. Great backhand, movement, anticipation, fight, skill. But, f*ck me, he had a horrible, slow, loopy forehand that often didn't make it past the service line. Imagine what he'd have been like if he hadn't stubbornly stuck with a shot I'd be embarrassed to have.....
