That's just devastating to watch. I has a similar occurrence in "Wrath of the Black Manta" when I was young. I was headed for the final boss in exceptional shape and the game glitched when I jumped and I got stuck between a platform. There was no timer on that game so you couldn't wait for it to expire and die. I was just hanging there with no way to move. I think I had rented it so that was my last opportunity. I never finished it to this day. I bought it about ten years ago and just have never attempted it again. It's a terrible memory. I really feel for you, man. TMNT is a brutal game because of some of the random glitches. Getting to the Terror Drome and some of the crap in it are really hit and miss. You definitely completed it, the game just screwed you. I remember when I beat it back in about 1990 and my buddy and I thought it was one of the worst NES endings we ever witnessed. "Hey, guys, let's go get some pizza." lol

Haha that’s the worst! I have a similar story! My friend that lived across the street from me had Wrath of the Black Manta. We almost got to the final boss. Then, they moved! I honestly couldn’t get there again with out him. 😂

This is one of the most frustrating games of all time. Got a few screens from Shredder when I was a kid, didn't beat it until decades later as an adult. The game being super glitchy doesn't help.

I finally beat TMNT on the Cowabunga collection this evening. First time ever. After I realized how easy Shredder was, I played him again without scrolls. On only my 2nd attempt with Don's Bo, I ended up repeating this exact same Shredder infinite punch loop. That would have been really frustrating as a kid! What I thought I was really strange though is how Shredder is the only enemy in the entire game that has 'knockback' upon getting hit. I wouldn't be surprised if the programming logic was reversed and all the enemies in the game were actually suppose to knockback except for Shredder. It just doesn't make any sense how difficult the game is because none of the enemies have no knockback effect only for you to breeze through the final boss simply because he has knockback.

Funnily enough, the exact same thing happened to me the first time I beat Shredder. I'm assuming it's some kind of issue with the damage values and Shredder's health. The game thinks you killed Shredder but in reality he still has health left. Had a redemption session the same night and beat him again without that glitch.

You needed the boomerang. You stand on the short ledge and just keep throwing them at the top ledge. That’s how I do it almost every time.

I watched this recently on a VOD. There was some question about whether this could be a problem with the cartridge. It's definitely not, it's just a programming bug. A dirty edge connector cannot do this. A faulty ROM chip is theoretically possible, but there's basically zero chance of that happening and also having such a subtle effect if it did. I think the programmers neglected to consider the possibility that somebody would beat this game.

Never had that glitch but I’ve had a rope fail glitch a few times on the actual nes cartridge. No matter what you can’t use the rope to get across the roof tops about mid game.

Did you use some cheat? I beat this game so many times when I was young, I can say I was a good at this game, but when I got to schredder usually all my turtles were about to die, you had all of them with max energy. I've seen that glitch once, as an adult I played that game to see if was still able to complete the game, I was playing in an emulator on my NDS 3, but I think the glitch is because you kill the schredder while he was in the air

If you have Donatello just wait until Shredder first materializes and hit him right away knocking him off of the platform to the left. He will then attempt to jump back up at you and when he is at the peak of jump hit him again knocking him back down. Rinse and repeat.

If anything, your final hit on Shredder should've been when he's descending after he walks off the higher platform. Sure, you won't see him melt into distinguished fire, as he goes through the floor Superman 64 style and dies immediately, shutting down his death animation from even finishing! But, it's definitely a great way to circumvent this devastating glitch - by using this other glitch, instead! Go figure.

Yep. I was kid when I beat this. Those closing spike rooms were THE most BS part. But this glitch back then would have set off a furious, throw controller, throw nes, make some new holes in wall, break cartridge in half rage quit.

Im just gonna say this is the 4th wall breaking ending. Turtle looking at you like, you're not supposed to be able to win. While Shredder just punches endlessly out of dispair and rage for losing. So you can look at it like you didn't fail. Because you didn't but you did have the unmet expectation. Expect this next time. Play to get this and maybe you'll have that expectation broken and get the other ending.

I still have the same Nintendo cartridge back from when my parents bought it for me as a kid in 1991. I have the North American version and I've never encountered this glitch with Shredder. For the game to function to make it that far in the game means your Nintendo works fine but to deduce things possibly..maybe the MMC1 chip within the cartridge could be faulty? But I doubt that too because the game constantly communicates bank switches between segments and levels just fine from an Assembly 6502 CPU point of view logically so that's odd. Never seen this before but that's for making us aware. GG btw because you conquered the game as it's difficult. 😇

All you have to do to beat shredder suuuuper easy is to just collect the scrolls throughout the game and use them on shredder. It only takes about 4 to 5 hits with the scrolls and he's dead. Scrolls are the strongest weapon in the game. Scrolls are the key.

I loved one of the X-Men games for the PS2, and one day I was running up a set of stairs and my character clipped through the floor and fell to his death. Shit like that is always a buzz kill, but I would consider the game beaten legit at that point. I have a KILL LIST where I list all the details of games beaten, and if it was me that would go on the list without hesitation. Gameplay stops after the final hit whether you watch the ending or not. Its equal to shutting off the NES after you beat the game. I rarely watch endings anyway. Great playing.
