Someone once asked Nuno Bettencourt why his signature guitar only had 22 frets. His response was something like "I have enough trouble playing with 22 frets I don't need 24". I on the other hand need many many frets! Compensation maybe? who knows who cares That is one beautiful guitar indeed.

Technically having more frets doesn't mean necessarily you need to use all of them, but makes it easier to reach the other ones. For example you would have an easier time playing the 22nd fret on a 24 fret guitar rather than a 22 one.

I think it's more of a visual quirk. Don't know if they are usable at all, but maybe some new guitar players will show us how to use them. After all who thought that the stuff they do with 8strings was possible either 😂

I agree. The choices Ibanez makes regarding which features go on which range of guitar is puzzling. I've got a RG7PCM(30th anniversary RG) that got all the bells and whistles except for the nicer Edge tremolo. Meanwhile, the Prestige line gets the nicer Edge tremolo without all the bells and whistles like stainless steel frets, glow in the dark fret markers, locking tuners, the convenient truss rod cover, etc. Even the J. Custom line doesn't get all the features like stainless frets and locking tuners.

Absolutely agree on locking tuners. The tuning stability argument is limited - they really don't do much for tuning stability. However, the fact that they make string changes so easy is their real value.

I've had a 27 fret guitar for a few years now, and I love it. But I've been waiting for a company to put out a legit, non-pointy 27, that is a little more solid than the one I have. This Ibanez does look nice though lol It is very tempting, and u seem to like it..hah - Thanks for the video brodda!

All high-end guitars [ and even mid-range] should come with lockers[tuners]. I put them on my Schecter Reaper FRS because setting up a Floyd or Edge bridge correctly and keeping it like that is enough hassle. Don't need extra hassle changing strings. The HipShot lockers are my favorite and the round knurled tuning buttons are much easier and smoother. They don't get in the way of each other while tuning either. I even put them on my Ibanez RGA42FML-BLF fixed bridge. Hopefully they become standard on most guitars in the near future. The Ibanez RGA series [A is for Archtop] comes the closest to the super thin S series while retaining the pointy metal-god goodness tradition of the RG series. I have an RG5320LCSW on the way. It carries about the same price tag. As the years go by, I've gravitated to Ibanez. They are also about the most consistent imho.

White fretboard binding would've really complimented this guitar's aesthetic. Imo 27 fret guitars are really just for the aesthetic, it just looks cool and that's why I have a bunch of them lol

Well more frets is like more strings, I see it this way 27 frets are 5 frets more than regular 22, which means you can tune down guitar and still get high notes like D on 22 frets regular guitar in E standard. So basically this guitar when tone to B has the same range as my 7 string with 22 frets. ;) That is interesting. Maybe someone prefers the range of 7 string and neck of 6 string who knows, don't ask me I am just leaving this useless comment here.
@JoeBaermann
@JoeBaermann Жыл бұрын
You do not need to bend the strings around a couple of times, heck even without locking nuts the wound strings will stick with a single overlap. Locking Tuners are still faster for string changes though, and for the price those could easy have fit into the budget.

Totally agree with the tuners. Locking tuners should be guitar law. Start a petition. Ha ! Too many frets for me, I don't play much past fret 15 or 17; Then it's time to powerslide back to the other end. Thanks for the video !

Hello Henning. If that is possible can you show your amp settings or say something how you set them when you play them? Because your guitars sound very different than other rewievers. It would help comparing the tone for the users. Thanks.

there is absolutely nothing magical about my settings. EQ is mostly at noon. 60-70 percent of the frequency response comes from the cab and that is a 4X12 creamback loaded cab in the OX from UA... so again nothing magical. The creambacks have probably more mids than most videos that use V30s or even Fender Deluxe Reverbs... so maybe it's the mids.

I don't get how people complain that string changes are faster with locking tuners on guitars with "floyds" am I the only one that thread the strings the "wrong" way around and clips the excess before sticking into the little hole on the trem ? That way the ball end is stuck in the tuner, and it isn't going anywhere.
@PooNinja

So adding a high A string instead of a low B to a 21 fret 7 string isn’t an easier way to hit those note? There’s lots of stuff I don’t understand, but it does look cool AF.
