Does the shuffle then follow the base chord of the tune? And do you most always use a shuffle before tunes? Thanks for the tips

Great question. Yes, that’s the general idea! The tune I played as an example is in A, so I used the A & E string for the shuffle. If a tune were in D, I’d use the D & A string, etc. As for always using the shuffle - it depends on the tune. If it’s a faster-paced Old Time or Bluegrass tune, then usually yes. But it wouldn’t be used with something like a waltz or blues tune, for example. Hope that helps.
