This takes me back to sitting in a room on benches watching these sort of films on a reel to reel projector at school

Amazing times. So many people employed by the railways, and they were able to move all types of goods to anywhere in the country regardless of whether the load was small or large.

Superb staff training film. So glad i watched it. Very concise and to the point. Fascinating to compare the differences between British and NZ couplings and working methods. A dangerous job in both cases!

This film was made after 1947 but before 1952. How do I know? At 0:58 a tank wagon passes the camera which has "Loco Fuel" written on it. This would contain Bunker C Fuel Oil for oil burning steam locomotives. Conversion of steam locos to burn oil began in 1947. A lot of this film was shot in the Wellington yards and there is no sight of any class Ew locomotives. I'm sure they would have appeared in this film in preference to the class Ed locos that appear several times. The class Ew locos were introduced in 1952.

Thanks a lot for the info , I use to catalogue the movies I watch on a database , it includes title , director , year , country ,etc. It helped not to leave the year field in blank.
