I hunt pigs with mine and an lpvo was what I ended leaving on there. Fgmm will do Moa out of it but also 147gr milsurp from federal or 147gr 308 reman from freedom munitions will hang around 1.5 Moa. Lot cheaper to play marksman when your gun likes cheap ball ammo.

Thanks for this excellent review. Very detailed with all the info needed. I have the Gen 1 716 piston rifle that I bought new about 10yrs ago. It has been an excellent rifle. Heavy as hell but it's a battle rifle, not a squirrel rifle. I did the same as you and started out with too much scope ( 6-24 Vortex) I'm now using a Riton Primal 1-8. Also dropped in a Timney trigger which help accuracy considerably. This rifle has always run like a Swiss clock. Only issue was a ammo one. GGG ammo will not cycle the action. Anyway, I was looking to pick up the Snakebite as a second Sig 308. So I found your review helpful. Thanks

I have one of these too. Mine came with the barrel collar. I'd like to get the newer charging handle, but there isn't much of a rush on that. I replaced the SL-K with the ACS-L and the grip with the MOE K2+ . Way grippier and heavier, but much better to shoot with. Also running a 1-10X mil/mil. Using Griffin Taper Mount with a F8ck You Brake (awesome description of those brakes) and Griffin Recce 7 (soon) and form 1 can (currently). Using the more robust model of the Harris bipod on a Magpul mount. I do love this thing and used it on a range day at work. Very interesting results and performance. More testing needs to be done and I'll be measuring it against a SCAR soon (I hope). Good country anti lose livestock and vehicle born threat gun (i.e. heavy patrol weapon). Love your stuff, Hop. Pragmatic AF... LOL.

For a short time I had a 4-16 on my 716i, and it shot 1 moa 5 shot groups with 150 grain Hornady American whitetail. It didn't seem to mind what the bullet weight was a whole lot though. It stayed in the 1-1½ moa range with anything form 150 grain up to 175 grain which I thought was surprising. Just a sample size of one though.
@IRAFOX888
@IRAFOX888 Жыл бұрын
I'll correlate that my 716i does love match 168gr. M118 SMK 175gr seemed to open my groups up slightly at zeroing distance of about 100yards. 175gr roughly was about 1-2 moa on any given day, where as shooting 168gr seemed to tickle it's pickle and I got consistent groups at about .75 - 1.5moa on a good bench with a nice optic. The rifle also enjoys the LaRue MBT2S and even with the light spring and smaller hammer, I haven't noticed any reliability issues, this gun just eats ammo. For my purchase of $1150 I'd say I got a damn good rifle for the price, and I'd do it again if I had to go back in time. TLDR: Thank you for making me feel validated I bought a gun that my poor wallet can't feed, Hop.

These are excellent rifles for the price, I'm honestly shocked they don't cost more. I'm one of those guys that can shoot good groups. With 168gn FGMM it was a consistent 1" shooter. Optic was a Bushnell DRMII 3.5-21, using an atlas bipod and rear bag (fortune cookie). I would swap out the trigger to a Geissele (find them on sale) or whatever your preferred trigger of choice might be, and call it a day. It wasn't mine, I just did a clone load (168gn FGMM) for a friend and handed it back over.

A couple years ago I ended up helping a friend narrow down his purchase decisions to the 716i as a hunting rifle. I did give him the disclaimer that i had never shot one and didn't know anything about it other than what we both read. But if i were going to buy one, I really liked its features. He loves the rifle and after helping him zero it, I can say that I'm highly tempted myself. The best parts to me are the rifle length gas system and the fact you can use AR pattern buffer components. Something like a Hyperion K might be a perfect can for the 716i just on gut first impressions. It should suppress significantly better but with less flow restriction, so it should produce less port pop and gas to the face. The other cool part is that its direct thread mount is also tapered so it should thread straight on and lock up securely on the taper worry free.

My friend has an original Gen1 Sig516 (manufactured before LWRC sued over patent infringements with the piston system and bcg too, I think) and it’s a freaking tac-driver! It’s in that Sig Grey, such a beautiful rifle; it’s a safe queen so that sucks for the rifle but it’s so smooth to shoot.

The trigger was a problem for me and the charging handle was not the best either. That said, I have run my 716i Snakebite with an Eotech 1-10 and a Holosun red dot mounted at 35 degrees. Replacing the trigger with a Geissele SDE and the charging handle with the SIG ambi model, all is good now. Thanks for the review, my experience with this rifle has been similar to yours.

I’ve had mine for a couple years now it’s a great shooter. I’d also recommend the phase 5 charging handle it is superior to the factory. Not sure if better than sig one however they always seem to be out of stock. Also running a swamp fox 1-10 arrowhead with a scalarworks mount.

Dude thats badass I just bought this rifle and now you made a video on it! Please validate my purchase lol 😢😅 Edit: purchase validated 👌 Im happy we were of the same mind when looking at this rifle and you love it for the same reasons I do. Only difference is you went LPVO where I went red dot and magnifier as thats what I know and am comfortable with. Walked into the store wanting an m&p10 but ended up with the sig. Couldn't be happier

I have the same rifle. It’s amazing. Soft shooting just like you said. I replaced the cheesy factory stock for the Magpul ACS and the fixed gas block with SLR Sentry 7 adjustable gas block for suppressor use. With Norma 150gr SP (Elk, not Whitetail line), I got sub MOA at 100 yards.

I know it’s a boomer scope, but I think something in the Leupold VX-3HD lineup would work well on this. Maybe a 3.5-10X or 4.5-14X. I’m really liking that magnification range as of late, especially in my hunting rifles. I’ve just found that I’ve really over-glassed some of my rifles with 6-24x or 6-25x scopes in the past.

picked this up at my LGS recently after talking them down to $1100, threw a 3x PA microprism and the magpul bipod on it and love the configuration for a 'mountain' rifle. Which is what India uses it for really. Bread and butter for 300-500 yards

I definitely impulsed bought mine the store I got it from had a great sale,,, so I had to pick it up , I actually really like it but with the price of .308 or 7.62 NATO already about a dollar a round on the cheaper end I pry won’t use it a whole lot,, I did notice the extractor spring didn’t have an O ring on it I have to find out if It’s supposed to be that way before I take it out again…

I have this rifle and within my use and range (200yds), for whitetail deer hunting its perfect! The 308 has the power I need and the 16" barrel is easy to move within my 4x5 blind. I would love for Sig to offer upper receivers and handguards barrel nuts so if you wanted to make a LR upper I could.. Just contacted Sig today and they stated they don't sell them separate.

Same rifle with roughly the same round count. Fantastic rifle, easy to shoot and carry in the field. The one thing I would add is it does suppress well with the right can. I run a Sandman S with a flash hider mount. I elected not to time the flash hider to avoid using shims between the collar and flash hider. RTV on the charging handle eliminated gas to face, still get a little more out of the ejection port than unsuppressed but it's more tolerable than most untuned 5.56 rifles.

Love it with the TANGO6T 1-6x24mm, a LaRue MBT Trigger and the Phase 5 ambi charging handle . Between this, my PTR-91 or my M1A if I had to pick one, I would pick this for a grab and go. Thank you, Hop for giving the 716i some love. Wonder if the HUXWRX HX-QD 762 would be a good candidate for a can on this?

If SIG will sell something like this, except using Small Frame design changes like POF and Ruger offer, and using a piston instead of DI, it would pretty much be - in my useless opinion - a nearly perfect rifle and suppressor host. Just don't use a proprietary bolt & barrel extension if possible, so that owners can swap out barrels without going through the expense, delay, and hassle of gunsmithing, please! Good review, Hop. Thanks for the video.

Awesome and informative video, like always. I picked up one of these recently. I love it. I agree its hard to place it in a role. Its a 16 inch .308. It is lighter than my St. Victor. Shoots super smooth. It came w a vortex 6-24. I think its a bit overkill. I wanna put a lpvo on it. I threw a KAK vert grip, and a Streamlight Protac on it. I wish .308 was cheaper. Id use it over my ar15s for SHTF.

More range and more impact energy for sure, but you can really feel the weight difference versus my 5.56 Tread. Depending on where you live, range may be less of an issue for SHTF, and a AR15 SBR could be the better option. Or better yet, a silenced 300 Blackout SBR that can run both subs (nice and quiet) and supers.
