re: the stuff they were all putting under their nose- I've read a few books about the function of medical examiners, how death investigations are carried out, and about the "body farm"- the University of Tennessee forensic anthropology facility meant to help carry out research about decomposition. Everything I've read says that only "rookies" use something like that to help quell the smell, as it never really helps anyway, and when you have some experience, you just deal with it. Ever since reading that, I'd been surprised that a film that gets so much right would overlook that- until I realized it's a genius way for the film to convey exactly how awful it smells in that room. FANTASTIC REACTION- I love watching the wheels turn and seeing how you're putting everything together. You always seem to stay one step ahead of the characters!

Sir Anthony Hopkins, who played Hannibal Lecter, won an Oscar for the role. He was born in Wales and was an accomplishrd theater stage actor in Britain for a long time before he moved to Hollywood to do TV and movies. He has done a lot of movies. At 84, he is still acting in TV and movies now. He was on the HBO Sci fi series "Westwood' just a few years ago and in 2021 he won his second Oscar for his role in "The Father" making him the oldest ever Oscar winner. And yes, he is a "Sir". I think Sir Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Hannibal Lecter) only has about 15 minutes of screen time and it’s the shortest amount of film time someone’s ever received for an Oscar. Hopkins received another Oscar recently for another film. He’s one of the best actors of all time. He legit scared me as Hannibal. Funny story. Jodie Foster and Hopkins didn’t interact on set together so they first meet while he’s behind the glass. Jodie after the movie said she was scared of him and he said back to her “I was scared of you!” He’s such a sweet, kind and compassionate man in real life. And a complete gentleman.

You should watch The Hunt, a 2013 movie from Denmark, an ex-teacher in rural Denmark works in a Kindergarden since the local school shut down. He's the most beloved person there, but when a little girl wrongfully claims he did something inappropriate to her, the whole village turns on him and it's just a crazy thrilling witch hunt from there

Agree with many of the below recommendations particularly Se7en, Gone Girl, Prisoners, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (either the original Swedish version or the American remake both were very good).. one I curiously didn't see recommended in this or related genres even though it's generally regarded super highly is The Usual Suspects.

I adore this movie one of the best and Anthony Hopkins is amazing as Hannibal he's who everyone pictures when they hear the character's name or read the novels. If you love this movie i highly recommend Manhunter from 1986 based on the novel Red Dragon which in many ways is a prequel to the events of The Silence of the Lambs and is the first appearance of Hannibal on screen played by the amazing Brian Cox who had his own take on the character very different to Hophins. There's also the movie Red Dragon from 2002 which is based on the same novel with Anthony returning as Hannibal. Red Dragon is more of a prequel to the events of the movie The Silence of the Lambs with how well the movie did it's no surprise they brought back Hopkin, Red Dragon is a great movie but i personality prefer Manhunter. Red Dragon has an added opening scene to link it more to the movie Silence of the Lambs a scene which was not in the novel or Manhunter but both movies still share a lot of the same dialogue and scenes which of course are taken from the novel but both are still very different movies in style, acting, and overall tone and music. I prefer William Petersen's version of Will Graham along with Tom Noonan's version of Francis Dolarhyde both amazing actors but Red Dragon's Edward Norton (Played Will Graham) and Ralph Fiennes (Played Francis Dolarhyde) still were amazing I just prefer the versions of the characters in Manhunter. I Recommend watching both there great movies and you'll enjoy them both.

Not psychological thrillers, but definitely need to see The Green Mile and Road To Perdition... 2 more excellent movies. They put Vicks Vapo Rub under their nose and I believe it's still done today. That overpowering smell directly under the nose will definitely block most smells. The mortician didn't need it because he's used to it by now. Also the music playing before his escape is "Sheep May Safely Graze." And he mutilated and tied the one guard up, turning him into a death's head moth, using the bunting for the wings.

There are three films with Anthony Hopkins as Lecter. “Silence of the Lambs” is my favorite, “Hannibal” which imo is not very good but has some interesting moments and “Red Dragon” which is a prequel and a very good film and actually a remake since the story was told years earlier in the film “Manhunter” which is also very good. Then there is the film “Hannibal Rising” about a young Lecter. I never saw that one but heard it is awful. Finally there is the TV series “Hannibal” that lasted 3 seasons with Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter… Excellent series.
