Right? I dont get what the people hating on it want. It clearly gets what made sh 2 good and does its best to recreate it very well most of the time. It is a gargantuan task to tackle and honestly, I dont know many other developers who'd do it as well as bloober did. As much as I didnt have faith in them at first, they really put their all into this.

Like the game even has an "its bread" reference from the 3rd game, they clearly understand the series. They even got jacob geller to consult them. How rare is it for a developer to actually reach out to the fans for advice?

@@OohsAndAhsBros Basically, Bloober Team had a reputaiton, and after how The Medium fucked up on mental health, they weren't willing to give the remake the time of day. It's hard for people to admit that they didn't fuck it up and actually can make a good title if they bother getting the right people to help.

The best part of the game is the clear and obvious respect bloober had for the original. You can tell they knew how much this mattered.

as an average pa resident, i have too say. that silent hill is real, and i live it every god damn day. i can hear my neighbor silent hill all over the place, and the sounds of his gyromancy are truly haunting. he has early onset demntia, and imma be real guys, he can gyrate all he want's, but i don't think that's gonna address his horrible sociopathic tendencies. like we all now you killed your wife, and we know your addicted to fent to help cope. i just wish he found some other place to silent hill, cause i need my sleep. and if he doesn't stop gyrating i'm gonna have to have to have one of those old fashioned silent hill shoot outs cause i'm done

I actually thought the game made him not scary at all. Reminded me of the pyramid head from the movies. Overly loud, sounds like a train with bass boost, etc. just kinda corny. Original he was quiet, scrawny, and creepy

I’m surprised you like this remake and you’ve been mostly positive about it. I really didn’t like it personally. I found the dialogue to be basically a sanitised version of the original, basically just much less engaging. On its own it’s not bad but in comparison to the original? Yeah I find it really bad. The dialogue feels very Hollywood movie esque. Just the tone and everything’s a bit off to me. The combat is far too much in a game like this, and since it’s such a prominent part of this game, I have to compare it to games that actually have good combat and, god damn man this game plays fucking terribly, like the combat is dog shit. Having it be so prominent in a game that was originally mostly a story in video game format feels cheap. After playing the re4 remake my expectations were very high for remakes, particularly I was expecting absolute fidelity to the characters, story, tone and look of the original, and I feel like bloober have purposely changed things so they can say they’ve put their “stamp” on the genre

Well the thing is, why even remake a game if they are not going to change some things? A remake has to be justified for them to sell it to us. If not then it’s just a remaster if they are going to copy the original exactly the way it is. While some parts of the voice acting fall short of the original, ie the prison scene and Mary reading the letter, I much prefer the Remake’s voice acting as it felt more natural while still keeping that dreamlike quality from the original. Personally, the combat is fine for this game since James is just a normal guy not a special agent trained to fight bio organic weapons like Leon or Chris.

Couldn’t possibly disagree harder.. the only thing I noticed was the insane amount of love and respect bloober has for the original game and the whole series itself.. I mean hell they put little clues/easter eggs in for obscure fan theories that most sh2 fans wouldn’t even know about. Not to mention all the little nods and Easter eggs to not only the og sh2 but also sh1 and sh3.. it may not be 1:1 copy paste the original but I genuinely believe they capture the spirit of the original better than any other studio could bar the og team silent crew themselves. But obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours even if I disagree

So you’re being pretty reasonable and not overly dismissive, which I can appreciate. I think personally, and this is purely subjective, in terms of the dialog I think this is just as good. I know the original has this surreal lynchian vibe to it and while I do enjoy that, some of it is pretty hokey and bad (WhOs RaChEl?!). Rather then try and replicate that I appreciate that they just played it more serious and dramatic, to the point where I will say that while this game does NOT top the letter reading, James performance in some of the endings comes pretty damn close. Again I’m not saying I think one is better than the other, I just think they decided to take it a bit more dramatic and serious and I think that’s plays better in this interpretation of the story. I also have to say regarding combat it’s good enough to feel like you’re fighting for your life without feeling like Kratos lol. The originals gameplay as much as I love it is garbage (despite popular opinion this is NOT intentional because Heather is a teenage girl and has better/more combat options) now obviously it’s not a big deal because gameplay and combat are like the least important part of silent hill, and the one of the only knocks I have against this remake is there’s probably a little too much of it. But it is a marked improvement, it’s functional, and it works. I also appreciate when remakes do things differently because to me a proper remake captures the essence of the the original, in music, characters, vibes etc without having to be a slavish recreation which I imagine is both artistically unfulfilling and functionally a little pointless, I think back to the Psycho remake that’s like a shot for shot recreation and feel the same thing would apply to any artistic endeavor, what’s the point? I also feel and maybe I should have led with this, I virtually never want nor expect a remake to invalidate the original, as much as I love the RE2 and 4 remakes, and now this, I do not think they overwrite or replace the original visions but I do think they’re stand beside them as a modern interpretation and works of reverence, with that viewpoint I think this game is a triumph.
