“It is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen.” i've always loved listening to the rain and the waves and this line lives in my head rent-free 24/7.

Those lines grabbed me too. They touch something very deep within us, something that is no fantasy, but real.

Yes I struggled to read it until I discovered this audio … now I read along with audio and keep returning to both … have been into Tolkiens work for many ages … first discovered The Hobbit around 1970 very quickly after that moved onto The Lord Of The Rings … have forgotten how many times I have read them all … kept picking up & putting down Silmarillion over the years until this audio … Martin Shaw does an excellent job of narrating this work

I got The Silmarillion when it was first published in 1977, and first read it in Worcester cathedral. I was doing some voluntary work there involving a lot of sitting in the nave. It was a great location to first encounter the music of the Ainur and the creation of Arda.
