It seems like for every song I am learning, my favorite recording of it is by Nadine Sierra. Even ten years ago she was this amazing. I really look up to her! This is my favorite aria that I am learning now. Beautifully sung, Nadine!

I know, it is absolutely wonderful and incredible to watch a young singers progress. At this point, of course, she had no idea just how big she would become. Such a stunning singer!

Really interesting to hear her at this stage. The voice is basically the same - the attractive duskiness in the middle of the voice is there, as are the open, colorful (emotionally remote) high notes. Wish her repertoire included Melisande, Thais and repertoire that better showed off the middle of her voice and included fewer operas where the complexity of her voice is lost in an ensemble cast.

Now, understand what it really is, vocally. First, it is too "big"; her native voice is smaller than what we hear; she is pushing the entire time to sound "bigger". This makes her pitch often tentative or just flat but rarely centered. Because she is singing too loudly, too "big", in too muscular a fashion, she rarely is able to have the flexibility for fine dynamics or any dynamics at all. There is too much pressure all the time. The voice is splattered ( air ) for several reasons- again, she is trying to be a train when she is a bus, maybe; her support system, whatever it may be ( I couldn't listen long enough to find out) is faulty at least; there is no steady exhaling through correct acoustic spaces made in the mouth. Singing is exhaling. Very difficult to understand too many words, a result of , again, over-singing and pushing. The tone is not centered well; it cannot be because there is too much wasted, splattered air. The dress is WHAT? Her posture doesn't help anything; she is an instrument, and the instrument has to be "held" correctly. If she is 21 here, it breaks my heart. I, literally, could not stand to listen more than maybe two minutes. Where are teachers who know about singing and science and decorum on stage and CLOTHES and preserving the health of the voice? I hope she found a teacher since 2009. I have heard of her, but it won't last long if this continued. Breaks my heart for her.

@@vincec8218 Vince, how kind of you to tell me that. Most people simply write awful things when I talk about the voice, ugly things. I will listen to her!
