added tip, Practice this even when you away from the kit at work, or on commute. Even on a flat floor - both with heel down and with your heel raised (tapping the front foot down) This burns even more, especially when you do it intentionally for extended periods.

His videos are always helpful however, they always could be half the length they are. Too much filler.

I agree. In the end, it comes down to practising singles to a speed that will improve your doubles, but takes 20 minutes to so do! I tend to scroll forward to around three minutes in on Steve's stuff, and then push on to the second last minute.

@@ashleycrashdissinger8021 With likewise due respect, it depends on how much free time you have? Agreed, it doesn't cost cash, but they say time is far more expensive. The principle points are well made, but as an educator for 24 years, I'm not sure the attention span for some is that good. Or is one expected to go back and repeat thus increasing time spent on the channel?

I have read comments that complain about the length of Steven's videos for his teaching tips. If you take the time to really listen to what he is saying, you would hear wonderful advice and helpful hints. He is a well trained musician. To skip over the talking would be a big mistake for a young drummer.

I was really hoping today's lesson would be on the kick drum foot. I was having some issues integrating my right foot into grooves and also with right foot precision (especially dynamically). So this lesson was spot on for me. A HUGE THANK YOU TO STEPHEN for another wonderful lesson.

Great comments about making the practice not just in time, but even dynamically and RELAXED. I frequently notice I'm tensing somewhere, or everywhere, when I'm "pushing" something in my practice playing. It's always a sign to me to back off a bit.

I started learning about 9 months ago. I had lots of time to practice over the winter months. I felt like I was doing great. However the last 2 months I've been so busy with work I hardly practice anymore. My foot speed totally went to shit. I now see how important it is to be somewhat consistent while learning the drums.

A great song for practicing kick drum endurance is Drain You - Nirvana. The main groove of the song has an amazing kick drum pattern that feels very rewarding to play, and the build section in the middle will really test how long you can sustain constant 8th notes at 130-140ish bpm for.

Could you do some videos on.... 1. 20in. PING vs. Ride cymbals? (more below)... 2. your thoughts on the heaviest/thickest weight THIRTEEN inch hi-hat cymbals one can find..? And-- 3. Imagine a Bass foot pedal at rest. Why a pedal that sits with the beater CLOSER to the Bass-head, but LOOSER, may be better than a beater further back with more tension. 4. SIZZLE cymbals-- why does hardly anyone use more than 3 rivets? And why do we only see very narrow/super-lite-weight rivets on cymbals? Why never anything flatter/wider or more like a Penny? or as wide as a Nickel, maybe from a hardware store? And is it better to have all rivets out at the edge, or "vertically" in a line from edge going inwards to the bell? why? 5. Stick definition. Some drummers use TAPE on the undersides of cymbals. Under what conditions or genres would anyone really want this? why? If yer not using just the bare cymbal itself, wouldn't the tendency in most scenario's of drumming to be to lean more towards a bit of wash and rivets, than to use tape? Thoughts? Thanks. These should be some juicy topics.

Great video…I have the same pedal as you but can’t get the feeling or rebound I like despite many many adjustments… 1-10 what spring tension would you say you’re at? 10 being tightest… also can’t seem to get pedal board height angle either…. Just frustrated…. Thanks man, I always enjoy and learn alot from your videos….
