There are 2 simpson audiences, those who watch the episodes and go 'ha that's a clever reference' and those who watch movies and go 'oh shit it's that Simpsons bit'

Shit yeah! For me also, when the reruns would show on tv instead of thinking 'shit I've seen this already' it was 'wicked it's this one!' . Before the days of streaming, this show before 2005 was the only thing that never failed to make me laugh haha

hold on hold on hold on hold on...the entire episode of S 4 E 2 is a reference to "A Streetcar named Desire". It's called "...named Marge" lol. To not overdue it, I was at least expecting, "MAAAAARGE! Hey MAAAAAARGE!!!!" There's also a reference to Citizen Kane in that episode too.
@EpicMickey7778 жыл бұрын
There's two you missed. In the episode where Flanders is the devil, they based his giant look after Chernabog from Fantasia. And in the one where Bart rigs some bullhorns, when Frink's octopus aquarium explodes, the octopus grabs his face like the face huggers in Alien.

The fact that Hollywood produces pure garbage now is a pretty solid indicator of why no one thinks this show is funny anymore. It no longer has anything clever to write with.
@mattgrant43425 жыл бұрын
Paradigm _sh1ft There are hundreds of reasons attributed to that, its downfall can’t be blamed on the state of modern cinema and not being able to reference good movies... The simpsons IMO went downhill around season 15 (loads would say around season 9 but I think there’s still value in the episodes after then) where the show became more of a self parody of itself than anything. Nerdwriter has a good video on it
@jorgesegniniaguirre5 жыл бұрын
Well... these are classics, movies that stood the test of time. The classics of the future are still to pass that test. There definitely are good contemporary movies out there, but were they to throw a nod to something like "Get Out", it would seem desperate, like they're trying to jump on the bandwagon (which they do a lot actually) instead of paying tribute to a great work of art.
