The sin of the spies was simply that they spoke the truth ,as they saw it ! what they should haver said was : ' if you want to know what the Land of Israel is like, you have to go see it for yourselves " because we all perceive things, see things, differently.

This sin of the spies, even according to Torah, they spread a bad report; the fear of the Giants overpowered them more than the fear they had of HASHEM at the mountain.
