Once when I was having lunch at a restaurant with some new acquaintances from Chile, I needed to go to the restroom, so just as Paulisima mentioned, I said "Ahorita vengo". Well they laughed (not in a mean way though) and told me that it wasn't correct. Can't even remember now what they told me I should say. Too bad, I say "ahorita vengo" all the time, that will never change!!

HA!! From all my time around my mexican friends, every word in this video is SO TRUE!! ;) I remember being just so confused and befuddled for a while with all these completely contradictory meanings for the same small word. It was like being stuck in that old Abbott and Costello bit - "I thought you said who's on first? ... No, no, WHAT's on second! Who's on first." And the way you guys put it together with the little skits, with the abuela yelling from the kitchen, that poor chavita trying to play the video game ... that was hilarious and captures it all perfectly! So well done and so much fun to watch, this might be my favorite language teaching video of all time. Muchisimas gracias!

I'm sorry if this comment belongs in a different video, but I've been trying to explain this to a few friends for days: Mexicans specifically say "eh" to acknowledge something or to simply say "yes." My friend didn't believe me, he thought I was referring to Canadians lmao 🤣

Ahorita, despues, quando tienes tiempo, tal vez no hoy, otro dia, hay muchas maneras por decir ahorita. Ahorita es una palabra muy util.

That’s how we use the phrase “a minute”. Give me a minute. (Could mean soon or later 😂) I’ll be a minute. (I will be a while) It takes a minute to get there (which means it takes a while). I’ll be there in a minute (which means soon but could also mean later but not too late) 😂it’s been a minute (it’s been awhile) she was gone for a minute (she was gone longer than expected) 😂 Also, black Americans say words twice to put emphasis on the meaning of the word as well 😂

Not any time soon? Odio esa palabra. It means sometime between now and the next century. Significa algun tiempo entre este momento y el proximo siglo. I've been in Mexico for 20 years and that's the only translation I've been able to notice, along with "esperame, despues, mas adelante".

hah, it's so hilarious that i find equivalent of this word in Russian since we use a word "Щас"(a short version of "сейчас"(ahora). And i noticed that we use this in context of our slackery like "not soon", " abit later" and also "just now" or "right now"😂😂😂😂

"Ahorita" the mexican expresion is very similar to the US expresion " I will do my best" when somebody is seeking a deadline time for something to be done from somebody else. It also is way vague and uncertain. Because it does not commit nor is clear, it depends on the unckown effectivity of the one responsible Though is very usual and widely accepted.
