Wife and I did a trip with Shane in 2016 up the Lamar. OUTSTANDING. Easy horses and mules, great food and great dry fly fishing for cuts. I had the pleasure of fishing one afternoon with Shane. Saw wolf tracks in the mud. Then a big male grizzly crossed the river 35 yards upstream, smelled us raised up and looked at us and scooted off. Hands on the bear spray. This bear, with the shower of water drops in the sun, rising up making eye contact and bounding off is "in touch with wild" as it gets. I will never loose this sight. Shane also talked each night about park history. The Sunrise crew is very safety conscious. As for the "combat fishing" comment. Having been there done that, I think this was a group of guys and done for the video. Try the Dream stream for crowds on some days. We fished in pairs. We fished at our pace and the only people I saw were from our group and 200 yds away. Respect. The back country camps are permitted, by NPS, spread about a mile apart or more. We saw several other pack strings and a few back packers on the trail. Hey it is Yellowstone not NW Territory fly in. My wife now has issues and can't go again. I will.

I've been so excited to see this video come out. I worked for Shane one Winter and would have loved to continue working for him had the pandemic not flipped my plans upside down. He is one of the most genuine people you'll ever meet. He truly loves sharing what he loves, and that's what I see expressed in the film. He's also one of the most patient and clear teachers I've worked with as he taught me to drive his excellent team of horses and mules.

Wonderful story! I think I would have told Dick Clark the exact same thing. You are so lucky, for multiple reasons. One, your Dad took you to Yellowstone when you were becoming an adult. Two, your wife ended up loving the place and lifestyle. Three, you can actually make a living, doing what you love in a setting that you love. Congratulations! That’s truly a gift your Dad gave you. I’m not going to lie, I’m so frigging jealous! 😂

Wonderful video. I own a lot south of Jackson. Plan to start building within a year. My wife talked me into going back to Alaska this summer for the second salmon run on the Kenai, but man I miss the Yellowstone eco-system which I call home.
