I was there, found the concert pretty good. It's clear that Eldritch isn't who he was in the mid-80s. Vocally, I don't find him that bad at all. In certain passages of the pieces it still comes through that he can still do it vocally. The only problem is that he thinks he has to sing some words/passages with over-emphasized harshness. So in the direction of aggressive shouting. Just the new style. What shoud that? ...I keep asking myself. The overall sound was absolutely great. The voice could have been mixed a bit louder, but otherwise it was really a great sound. You can see that even here in this video. One of the highlights was the crowd following the last song "This Corrosion". I uploaded it but you would have to click on my channel to find it somehow (didn't work as it's easy to find). Eldritch announced the last song, "Now it's up to you." And he wasn't wrong about that either. And for the sake of proportionality (the viewers are on average in their mid-40s), the people went really well with it. All in all, a really great concert. 50% old classics, 50% new material not available on CD was played.

it was really badly mixed, not only in the case of the SoM but in almost all bands the vocals were clearly too weak controlled. because we couldn't be there for health reasons, we had to rely on the ARTE streams, so we noticed it clearly. We saw SoM in some Concerts Belgium and Luxenburg and SoM were really good there, like at the earlier appearance at the M'era Luna.

@@serafinacrystal9991 That's true. At least when it comes to the loudness of voice. The same problem appeared at the Mission concert. You could even hear that on the ARTE live-stream that was broadcasted afterwards. Same in that case: Sound was good/o.k., but the lead singers voice a bit too quiet.

@@sandralopez1625 So, I saw them a week ago in Austin, TX, and I confirm they had no bass, it was on the backing tracks. I can't imagine a logical or practical reason. But, knowing how feisty, provocative and full of weird principles Andrew Eldritch can be I would bet it's for shock value, or for some weird reason such as to send a message to Patricia Morrison in the vein of "I don't need a bass player". I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it, but frankly SOM having no bass on stage should be forbidden by law.

Die Sonne stand v.a. zu dem Zeitpunkt als sie spielten tief. Strahlte / knallte unaushaltbar grell die Bühne an. Wenn man sich als Besucher umdrehte (also aus Bühnensicht guckte), sah man nichts, so grell. Er fand da sicher einen Platz wo es, nach rechts guckend, etwas besser auszuhalten war. Anfangs des Gigs stand er auch 'mal mit dem Rücken zum Publikum, um die Sonne nicht sofort ertragen zu müssen. Später sagte er auch noch während des Konzerts: "I'm looking at this beautiful sun.", was man sicher auch als "Die Sonne brät voll in mein / unsere Gesichter." verstehen konnte und "sollte" ;) .

And i think it was horrible. the Gituarist was good and interact with the crowd, but Eldritch... i dont know... horrible for me to look at him, and he goes many time in the left background what he was searching in the background? was there another stage or checking time how long he has to stay? For me it wasnt good. thats my opinion.

Ich war zugegebenermaßen unfassbar enttäuscht von dieser live Performance auf dem M'era Luna, nachdem ich mich seit knapp einem Jahr auf das Konzert gefreut hatte... Zum Glück haben Eisbrecher an dem Abend das Festival mit einer wahnsinns Show beendet

Was habe ich die Sisters damals geliebt. Und damals war vor ca. 30 Jahre . Der Zeitpunkt zu dem er hatte aufhören sollen,statt sich mit diesen jungen Möchtegernmusikern lächerlich zu machen.🤷

Schlecht gemixt wie fast alle Bands, aber hier fällt es besonders auf. Bei deren letzten M'era Luna war das DEUTLICH besser auch die Konzerte in Belgien oder Luxenburg, aber das ist schon ein paar Jahre her. Das BESTE Konzert EVER war Bochum Zeche 1985. Nee da ich aus gesundheitlichen Gründen diesmal nicht vor Ort sein konnte, war ich auf die Arte Streams ( Lieben Dank an ARTE ) angewiesen und da hat man schnell feststellen können, dass das alles schlecht gemixt war, egal ob Beauty of Gemina, VnV Nation, Eisbrecher oder sonst wer der gezeigt wurde, die Stimme war schlecht zu hören.

Sorry, war nicht so gut, vergleichbar mit einer singenden Krähe.Vielleicht sollte er sich weibliche Unterstützung auf die Bühne holen.Nochmal tue ich mir das nicht an.Gut das die mobilen Bierjungs noch vorbeigekommen sind.Nach zwei Halben auf die Schnelle gingen die Ohrenschmerzen etwas weg und 13 Euro😂

Ich glaube das ganze Genre ist mittlerweile veraltet. Viele Bands wirkten müde, weil sie so lange im Geschäft sind. Das Durschnittsalter des Publikums spricht auch Bände... Ich denke das erledigt sich die kommenden Jahre von selbst, denn alles hat seine Zeit und jetzt feiern die Leute eben auf anderen Festen. 🤷🏼

Hast wohl Recht. Ich war vor Ort. Durchschnittsalter beim Festival vielleicht so um die 45. Aber der große Unterschied zur z.B. Rock/Heavy-Metal Szene ist, dass es Bands, die die Stilrichtung der ersten Stunde des Wave/Gothic Rocks beibehalten, kaum noch gibt bzw. in dieser Unterkategorie (und das war in den 80er eben die vorherrschende) kaum noch was nachwächst und dass generell sich die Jugend für dieses Genre immer weniger zu interessieren scheint. Es gab auf dem Festival kaum Leute zwischen 18-25. Und das ist schon ein Unterschied zu anderen Musikrichtungen.

@@Deutschlanderneuerer Ein Grund : diese Musik/Kultur entspricht der europäischen Bevölkerung - diese wird immer geringer, vor allem unter der jüngeren Generation. Viele Jugendliche mögen Rap, HipHop, usw... Bevölkerungswandel mit Konsequenz auf Kultur und Musik

What has he got against bass players? Aside from his overwrought vocal tics these days, just having two guitars and a drum machine makes it feel too much like karaoke. A live bass player would give it some depth. Instead the drum pattern never changes all song and the bass is just following a chord sequence. It’s all a bit band in the box.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, it is an interesting nuance as far as image is concerned, Andrew underwent a metamorphosis becoming his own logo, a caricature, he stopped being 'gothic', his sound is a degraded pop, very sad, it is far his great show at 'Royal Albert Hall', among others, we will keep those memories and forget this Mera Luna 2022.
