The origin of the Kingdom of Demak, is not clear. Traditional Javanese stories, which are more popular, say that Demak was founded by, Raden Patah, son of the last Majapahit king, and a daughter of the Chinese king, who was called, "Putri Cina", although the story is considered unreliable, by historians, such as T G Th. Pigeaud, and H J de Graaf. Regardless, they conclude that, the ancestors of the Demak rulers, appear to have been immigrants, Muslims of Chinese origin, who first landed, in Gresik and later, settled in Demak.
Expedition and conquest.
Demak, under the leadership of Pati Unus, is an insightful Demak, from the archipelago. The big vision is to make Demak a big maritime empire. During his reign, Demak felt threatened, by the Portuguese occupation, of Malacca. Then several times, he sent his navy, to attack, the Portuguese in Malacca.
Demak under the leadership of Trenggana.
Trenggana is credited with the spread of Islam in East Java and Central Java. Under him, Demak began to dominate, other Javanese areas, such as seizing Sunda Kelapa, from Pajajaran and repelling, Portuguese troops, who were about to land there (1527), also conquering almost all of, Pasundan or West Java, (1528 - 1540) and areas, the former Majapahit in East Java, such as Tuban (1527), Madura (1528), Madiun (1529), Surabaya, and Pasuruan (1527 - 1529), Kediri (1529), Malang (1529 - 1545), and Blambangan, the last Hindu kingdom at the eastern end, the island of Java (1529 - 1546). Trenggana died, in 1546, in a battle, conquering Pasuruan, and was later succeeded by, Sunan Prawoto. One of the Demak warlords at that time was Fatahillah, a young man from Pasai (Sumatra), who was also the son-in-law of King Trenggana. Meanwhile Maulana Hasanuddin, son of Sunan Gunung Jati, was ordered by Trenggana, to subdue, Banten Girang. Then from his descendants, Maulana Hasanudin, made Banten an independent kingdom. Meanwhile, Sunan Kudus, who was the imam at the Demak Mosque, was also the main leader, in the conquest of Majapahit, before moving to Kudus.

Sunan Kudus
Sunan Kudus, an imam at the Demak Mosque, was also the main leader, in the conquest of Majapahit, before moving to Kudus.

Sunan Kudus was born, on September 9, 1400. He is the son of Sunan Ngudung, or Sayyid Uthman Haji, with Syarifah Dewi Rahil.
