I am in awe of how calmly and confidently Ben plays this mighty piece, and he does it by heart!

What a beautiful legato, and how easily one can follow, at any instant, each of the six voices. Bravo.

That was one of the creepiest, most hauntingly beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. Hard to believe a human came up with this!

Ben Kerswell, you are a wonderful musician! I think that J.S. Bach was the the greatest musical architect, as his form and organicity (no pun intended) were exquisite and perfectly constructed. You do a terrific job of expressing all of that in this ricercar. Bravo.

One can only repeat, hearing this unbelievable piece, (according to a saying of Beethoven): It should not be called BACH (= Stream), but MEER (= Sea)!

How about a video of the Ricercar a 3 from "The Musical Offering," thereby providing the other "book-end" to this incredible piece of music? It seems to me it would be especially appropriate to hear the original piece inspired by the theme given to Bach by King Frederick the Great of Prusssia!

I've been playing the organ for over 40 years, and I just added this to my favorites. That means something. One suggestion though. A legato style with such a harmonically dense work isn't ideal. A more attacking style seems to work better. See this as a great example. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqjJpXV9Zrt_nJosi=HRfRLEONdQhTT3ha

Sometimes I feel like Bach put a bit of his grief over losing some of his children into his music some of it is pretty sad
@herrickinman9303 Жыл бұрын
You evidently know nothing about the origin of this piece. The theme of this fugue was propounded to Bach by King Frederick the Great in 1747. The chromatically descending tetrachord in the king's theme was the traditional lament motif from the 17th century to the late 18th century.
