As a fan of ancient history this came across my youtube feed. Also, as a atheist, I love the frame in which you told the argument and history and kept the personal religious bit until the end where it was explicitly stated; it actually increased my respect and your credence. I haven't watched your other videos yet but I would be really interested in how you learned and research the history outside of biblical resources. I mean the small details too because you do cover a lot of things at a high level. Thanks and keep doing what you are doing!

Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. Philip has a PhD in archaeology, so he’s reading books and journal articles to write each video. This one also delves into some of his own research and expertise when it comes to collapse. That’s where more of the detail comes in.

I’ve been subscribed for a long while now. You all keep getting better. I appreciated the end of the video too. Thanks for bringing some sound theology to the history of God’s people.

Also atheist here, well read in Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Levant history. Much respect in Beneath the Bible’s tackling of history as a synthesis of parrallatic approaches from many disciplines. Also respect in your Theological aside in acknowledging writers, compilers and modern readers practicing a living theology in applying past to present and future in a hopeful framework. Question: in your theological aside, when you talk of the prophets foretelling Jesus, I know you know that this is in language tied very much to the monarchy and ultimately the Combat Myth of the Storm God triumphing over both Sea and Death. Knowing the origin and multivariate reworking of this mythologem how do you embrace it as a true story? It seems simpler to understand it as folks practicing living theology by interpreting near term events in light of the past with a hope for the future.

Why is the audio in your newer videos so poor? I remember that your older ones from a couple years ago had clear, louder audio. Did you damage your old mic and had to settle for an inferior one?

We have had to use a different microphone recently, but we’re working on improving the audio quality

Love the discussion of the theory, it seems like Imposed Collapse is being used to describe the conditions of conquest such as mass deportation or environmental desolation in the aftermath of sack. I wonder if more modern situations such as the aftermath of WW1 in the east with the Russian Civil War, the chaos in Germany after the departure of the Kaiser and into the Weimar government and the collapse of the dual monarchy could be described in the same way or if there would be a difference enough to distinguish them.

Amazing how our lives today are still affected by nonsense that occurred so many centuries ago.

I really appreciate the info but I find the dark haired young man with the beard difficult understand in most videos. He does not enunciate the words clearly. He is too much in a hurry when speaking.

jesus is a fictional hero/god to lead the jews to self determination from roman empire occupation

Jesus was a real man, he preached his views tried to tie himself to Jewish myth and got executed. His ideas spread and rome was already very christianized by the time Constantine was emperor. Then they just took this religion and ran with it, Jesus has the traits and did the same things heros did. Mithra Hercules orpheous dionysus and they paganized Christianity so that pagans across the empire could unite under one religion. MY POINT: Jesus was a man who preached his ideas, he was not a pagan hero

@@danf7411 : jesus was a fictional hero, just like moses and mohamed. there is exactly zero historical contemporary evidence these guys ever existed. bible scholars have a conflict of interest, to be properly investigating, snd besides that, they're only using fictional religious writings to infer a possibility (not good probability or certainty) that jesus existed. they are forever bound to study the very religious/political writings that are full of fiction. apart from that, there is zero that a jesus or other wannabe teacher of (false) morality, who has anything better than what we can already work out ourselves. morality is how people treat people; not what an invisible fictional creator of universe thinks about it..especially that all you can do is pretend the fictional god is smart, and never prove it. my invisible pink flying dragon is smarter than gods. you've been indoctrinated to tow the line on fictional garbage, that doesnt make the world a better place. time to grow up and work out what really is the right thing to do. anti-abortion (not in bible either) and many other church horrible doings are taught to believers as being good, despite reality. christians and muslims do horrible things to other people because they've been brainwashed their greed for a fake afterlife with sky candy is real, with zero evidence. religions are politics, a horrible version of preaching ignorance about reality. you cant wish bs into reality.

If I get this straight you're saying the resurgence of the mesopotamian powers after the Bronze Age collapse subsided is in itself another collapse for the smaller principalities that had filled the power vacuum on the peripheries

Good, concise presentation! If all the lessons are like this one, I’m in. I have subscribed-with caution-but if it turns out to be mostly evangelical Christian apologia, I’ll unsubscribe. (I’m Christian BTW.)

Wrong. Shame on you. I'm guessing your dissertation, when peer reviewed, reaffirmed that Jewish writing from the first century BC and the archeology do not agree? ..... that is, IF your dissertation had relationship to what was discussed. Writing one doesn't equal instant "professional" ... it shows intellectual integrity and honesty when LOOKING at the evidence, where is agrees with record and where it does not.
