This week has brought an early episode of the #SketchbookSeries, already available for free on the THU Platform: bit.ly/THU_SketchbookSeries ✍️
In this episode, we get to explore the creative mind of Red Hong Yi, an artist from Borneo, Malaysia, who works with everyday materials such as soil, matchsticks, eggshells, teabags, and chopsticks. Known as the artist who “paints without a paintbrush”, she creates mixed media installations by reinterpreting everyday materials through the accumulation of objects. By combining traditional craftsmanship and digital technology, she creates works that consider perceptual habits and preconceptions on the chosen objects and subjects, expressing the themes of women, heritage, race, and climate change.
