I worked at hamilton General for 10 years . My dad an iron worker. Local 736 . Born and raised in hamilton. Nanny lived on cannon east . Beautiful neighborhood in the 1960. Lived on barton for 5 years as a young nurse . Walked to work. All good . Police and firemen . Old Italian families all around me

Those "trashy ghetto neighbourhoods" are all zoned industrial. I lived and worked in Hamilton for 40 years and know the city well. Sure, people who live in this area are not all that well off, but I wouldn't call them "trashy" or living in "ghettos".

None of that is "Ghetto". All of it is middle working class housing. There was no low income housing in this video. And it looks worse than it is because of the time of year the video was filmed. ANYTHING could look worse in winter when the trees are dormant and an overcast sky.

@@hurstshiftin9873 They are the same age as most homes in Toronto, early 1900's, typically 1910's and 1920s. I don't see all those homes having to come down from all these issues. None actually, unless a developer bought it and is making a high rise condo. Many of these older homes are built better than the newer ones, which are built shoddily and with poor quality cheap material.

I lived on Madison ave near sanford or the ghotto as you say it. Living in that neighborhood had pros and cons, definitely a mind your own business attitude there; but I was never bothered by anyone. Lived in Hamilton for 28 years (I'm 29) and recently moved away to northwestern Ontario. Although, I'm happy to move forward in rural Canada, a part of me will always miss Hamilton. Hope Hamilton does well in the future.

The problem is Hamilton like was a Very Industrial city with Blast Furnaces, steal Mills, Trains car Manufacturing, Cameo, Westinghouse and many more. With the de industrializing of North America a lot of that has gone leaving a big gap and changes in our cities. as well as a social change in life in general leaving people who can and leave other stuck struggling in the changing cities. some the change are too big and leaves poor and struggling area's and other changing area's. I love my city and I'm glad to be where I am outside of it, but Hamilton will always be my in my heart as the place I came from ......905 from the 519

Our illustrious 'movers and shakers' in the political and corporate sector got rid of thousands of well paid steel working jobs. We were promised years ago that as these steel working jobs disappeared a new economy would take it's place. Poverty has a way of demoralising people and as it becomes generational drug addiction provides the fantasy of a better life. Political and corporate leaders are doing fine though thank goodness! My steel working job began in the seventies and ended in retirement in 2008. I saw it all unfold like a slow moving car accident. In the covid era these political and health leader shut down the economy and made healthy working class people stay at home, while the government printed money. It's sad the majority of incompetent blowhards gravitate to position of power in society while the working class actually produces wealth and services.

That's not a valid argument. The prices don't even COME CLOSE to reflecting the value. All houses jumped up 25% in price in just A MONTH this year. Houses that aren't actually worth more than 400 thousand are selling for close to a million. The house I grew up in was sold for less than 200 thousand. Now it's worth 4 times that. As someone who lived there for the first 21 years of my life, I can absolutely ASSURE YOU it's not even worth 500 thousand, not even close.

Well, Hamilton is a historic steel production city. I don't live in Canada, so I'm not sure if it fell on hard times the way places like Pittsburgh and Youngstown did when steel in North America went to hell. But from videos and pictures, you definitely do get the gritty feel.

Hamilton doesn't look bad. It actually reminds me a lot of my hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania. A few rough-looking areas, but otherwise just a gritty old industrial city where the skies are grey 80% of the year. 😂

There are places far worse in Europe! This looks really nice, I don’t see anything trashy abut this. I would love to live in Ca. Have been there at the age of three and then went back to Europe :(

I been to Romania and I live in Canada. Sure there are way worse places in the EU like Ferentari, but lets not call this place in Hamilton nice. In my opinion I find it ugly. Its probably ugly because of the -30c winters and being abandoned. As far as safety and crime goes its probably not to different then other Canadian cities. I'm sure common sense and awareness will mostly keep you safe. If your an EU citizen you can go to any EU country in the schengen area its not like your forced to stay in romania, bulgaria, hungary etc. I hope one day you'll get to come back to Canada.
