These kind of MREs are actually originated from Korean army's combat ration. In mid 2010s outdoor camping became popular in Korea and combat rations somehow got out of the army(due to expiration etc) became popular. Companies started making those rightaway and started to compete, resulted in unique flavors and adding noodles etc.
