Smallest maps opens up the chance to design the map from the ground up. You could almost give each player the exact same set up, wood line placement, ect. Allowing for it to be an undoubtedly equal match.

Snippy gged with 1900 gold, he could easily go to castle age and castle drop . He didn't eat the berries and one boar.

Not that easy, first he would need to get 800 food to get to castle age(which even if he managed to get the boar under his TC, would take some time on it's own to gather), and then about 600 extra stone to afford a castle. And ofc the time it takes to age up, while being constantly harrased by Hippo's ships. and if against all odds he does manage that... there would not be a lot of places where he even had room for a castle. So yes he might have have a lot of gold, but that was pretty much the ONLY thing he had. And he didn't even have a market, so he could convert it to other resources, which at this point even a market would be hard to find a good spot to build

I feel like snippy needed to either go all in with fires or all in with towers. He spread himself thin on too many fronts while hippo just picked a couple strengths and ran with them.

Not targeting the villagers with each tower at the end was a critical mistake. Snippy would've held the North and could just wall south otherwise.

Spoiler... Look at Snippy's gold. Just like T90 said, the market was key. That seemed like the turning point. I really wish capture age would fix the market resource gained bug. I feel like T90 will correctly predict resource advantage, only to look like a fool, because the losing player is market abusing. It awards you resources gained, while not subtracting resources spent. Seems like there are two easy options: disabling market from stats altogether, or subtracting resources spent as well. You could also do something more complicated like add a Market row or column to the resources page to get an idea of market abuse. Would love to see that change way more than smoking vils. They're fine. Let em live.

That was a good comeback, I really feel like Snippy had the advantage early on, but his micro just wasn't there to carry him though. The fumble with the demo-ship was the start, he had really been putting all his eggs into that navy and it just sunk. Could have recovered at the end if he got those towers or balanced his eco with the market but it all just fell through.

Ok hear me out on this map: fast imp byzantines, go straight for Dromons. Don't need chemistry and Byz imp is cheaper. If you could wall up and eat some fish it could be possible.

Hippo had stone for a castle too but never dropped it. If he could have dropped that instead of the monastery, it would have prevented any potential for a loss to towers up there, if he could have dropped it

my line of reasoning for such a map, I want a civilization with full maritime tech, max galleys and bombard galleys, if there is any economic bonus, great but not required. Stone walls even 2 or 3 layers on both sides on land and constant production on the docks.

The main thing that swung the game was the lack of a market from Snippy. Having almost 2k gold without being able to use it was a huge throw. Imagine if he had built a market and just bought food to make more man-at-arms. He would have had a LOT more to throw at the north fight.

I think snippy knew he was dead as soon as castle age came in and that last tower rush was to speed up the game for the "play to the end" request.

snippy made no sense this game. you wait till youu ahve 900 stone, 1600 gold, 400 food to... maa and tower rush in late feudal? why??? you can just build a market easily and make a castle, and make samurais in 5 mins much more effectively. if he was gonna do MAA and tower the time for that was 10 mins earlier. whatever
