It’s kind of a tie between the Beatles and smashing pumpkins. But the Beatles had three songwriters. So possibly Corgan is the greatest songwriter of the 20th century based purely on the volume of high quality material he produced.

in an interview, he asked billy how much material he hasn't heard and he said "hundreds of songs. Complete songs too. I could stop recording now and release an old song every month for the next 20 years easily"

Seriously! I thought the same exact thing when I found this song today. One of the most prolific bands ever. Saw them live in 2012, wish I'd seen them earlier but I understand why they didn't play 1979. Must be frustrating to have one song dominate attention when they have so many other hidden gems.
