From 5:17 onwards it's lovely to see Billy smiling at James, then D'arcy, (with her actually smiling back) then the drummer in a genuine moment of "This fucking rocks!!". I miss that.

Back in the day I was told that Pumpkins didn't sound good live, so I never went. And now I see all of these older live performances on KZbin, and I couldn't agree LESS! I think my biggest regret in life was that I never got to see them play. Their music defined my entire young adulthood and I still love it to this day. Billy, please get the band back together. And send me a ticket. :)

It became so rare to see them all smiling at one another, having a great time performing, and really loving all being together in a band, that this video is both beautiful and heartbreaking. While you’re in your life’s best moments, you never know it … not until it’s gone. I wish we better understood how much we’re fated to lose, then maybe we’d dig each moment more. At any rate, it’s genuinely beautiful to see James, D’arcy, and Billy all beaming at one another, sharing that psychic link, and being propelled by their own music. I hope there’s another life after this one, I truly do.

I love the Adore-era version of Thru the eyes of ruby. This is a fantastic performance of that. I honestly think this is right up there with their performance of it in aula magna of the same year. This one is more spare, which they've done some really fantastic versions with and really scratch the 'itch'. My favorite Smashing Pumpkins, showcased in true majesty. Thanks for uploading!

+brian lawless I think this is one of those rare songs where it's a tale of two different versions. Meaning whether it's bombastic or spare, it can be equally special and magical. (And you're right, there are some absolutely blistering versions of the song with Jimmy back there)

If Jimmy had still been in the band at that point there wouldn't have been an Adore era. That was a reaction to the loss of Jimmy more than it was a conscious decision to change musical styles.

This more musically subdued version really allows Billy to focus on the sublties and clrity of his vocal runs. As he usually oversings or rolls his eyes when he does this song live.
