Catnap being the calming presence of the group is definitely interesting since we know he’s the one expelling the sleeping gas. If catnap has a monster form would the other critters have some too cause in those files there was another experiment that I believe was said to be pretty fast so that could be Hopscotch.

I believe that while catnap will be the main enemy, as we’ve seen in a teaser image, we’ve seen multiple different faces that look like catnaps face in a suit of some sorts, so maybe we will have to deal with the other critters while also dealing with catnap

The critters I believe were inspired by Irl plushies called scentsys. These plushies came with scent packets and when you unzip the back of it you can put the packets in giving the plush a sweet smell. Each plush also came with a info thing on the box. Just thought I might point that out

My mom sold scentsy for a year or so. And the things you are referring to are the scentsy buddies you put little scent paks and then they smell like that scent and they have buddie clips that you attach to your key ring or backpack but scentsy is mainly like a wax and warmer company

My favorite scents are brownie batter (discontinued) and a like vanilla scent. My mom did get boxs called BBMB (bring back my bar) and she did get a couple of brownie batter bars and then she couldn’t pay for it so she stopped receiving them. But all in all Scentsy is a good company, also they have done collabs with Marvel and sruff.

that image with the impaled toys actually looks a lot like a barricade. that plus Dogday's description sounding like he would be an ally seems to me like less an offering and more a barricade with toys impaled as a warning for anything hostile looking for an easy snack, pretty much saying "Don't come close, I can and I will."

Mike showed a video of him analyzing the trailer for the gameplay and it shows the player backing away as Dogday chases us eerily so he might as well be a hostile enemy as Mike said in that video. It would be cool if maybe there’s a calming scent that brings the other smiling critters back to normal or smth. Update: Dogday is innocent. He told us to leave the Playhouse because of Catnap and the other dangerous happenings. Sadly the tiny Smiling Critters possessed his body and that’s how he became a hostile enemy at least a chase scene

6:10 I think that’s arranged more like a barricade, the spikes there to impale any toys trying to climb over the thing. It’s either there because the adults built it during the ‘hour of joy’ or the kids made it during the resulting chaos.

Some of these scents they chose here are quite interesting. - Lemongrass is a tropical plant found in Africa, Asia, and Australia, which is known for producing a oil that is used in insect repellants and soaps - Jasmine is a flower found across Eurasia and Australia that is commonly used for perfumes and religious rituals - Ylang-ylang is a unique flower only found in Southeast Asia (most commonly the Philippines), with its oil being used in aromatherapy Certainly a diversion of what I typically expect for scented products.

The same could be said for peppermint (which is also used to ease the symptoms of nausea, which makes me think that maybe that critter was given to any of the orphans who got nauseated by the experiments?)

Catnap having a lavender scent is pretty important since lavender has mild calming & sedative properties. I know the life sized one dispenses sleeping gas on a high level for experimentation, but what if the commercially available ones were used as sleep aids?

Actually all of the scents mentioned have either the property to lower blood pressure to make you sleep or are good scents to help you sleep Here is what my 1 minute of looking up research has shown me Lemongrass might cause sleepyness In the right dose, the smell of roses can actually lower blood pressure and the number of breaths you take per minute, which makes falling asleep easier Jasmine in aromatherapy is often used as a natural sleep remedy. While many scents have been shown to help deliver a better night's sleep in the practice of aromatherapy, researchers from Ruhr Universität in Bochum, Germany found jasmine to the most effective. Ylang-ylang lowers blood pressure and heart rate and quite naturally sets the body up for sleep Vanilla encourages relaxation and has been proven to steady your heart rate and reduce your blood pressure Citrus has been reported to exert sedative and hypnotic effects peppermint causes your muscles to relax, relieving stress and anxiety, which both add up to allowing you to gain more restful sleep. What personally makes the smiling critters so creepy is how they have wide eyes, tiny pupils, and a hysterical psychotic grin and just silently stare at you, and it reminds me of that one cupcake mlp game where pinky tries to kill you. This will, most likely, be one of the creepiest chapters yet, and I cant wait for it

I had an idea for a plot twist. What if Catnap isn't actually a bad guy? Maybe the other Critters are bad, and Catnap uses his gas to keep them dormant, unwilling to kill them because he still sees them as friends. Maybe he starts out trying to kill you because he thinks you'll try to free or kill the other Critters, but either let's you go or even joins you when he realizes that's not what you're after, possibly becoming the first main antagonist not to die.

That would be an interesting twist, but probably an unsatisfying one as you play the chapter. Having Catnap suddenly be the good guy after he spent the chapter trying to kill you seems a bit too much to suspend belief.

Catnap was once a kid who died whilst doing the Prototype's bidding, and even now he continues to serve the Prototype as an oversized plushie. We as the player might threaten the Prototype's plans, therefore Catnap would intervene by eliminating anything or anyone who tries to foil his master's plans. And we must not forget about Poppy Playtime, she is the one who brought us to the playcare for a purpose we have yet to know, and it would most likely include eliminating Catnap.

This! I was actually searching the comments to see if anyone had commented on this. These are definitely not nearly as associated with medical settings as they are with experimental ones in my mind. They're a requirement for any laboratory, so this makes me think this room was being used for some kind of chemical or biological testing on the kids. (While most of the time they are used for chemicals, they are also kept in biology laboratories and used in case of spilling any kind of bacterial sample or similar).

It's neat how the scents of the Smiling Critters match their personalities. It makes me think that they're less a stuffie to sleep with and more just a plush to purchase and collect. For example, if your child has problems getting up and ready for the day, using citrus could aid them in waking them up in a good (or better) mood. If your child is too energetic, but it isn't quite time for bed, a calming jasmine or vanilla scent could be used. If your child gets sick often, you'd probably want to stock up on lemongrass (anti bacterial), rose (anti inflammatory), and peppermint (decongestant), etc etc. If your kid is allergic to lavender, ylang ylang might be a good substitute for a night time aroma. I will say, I think it's smart that scents can be kept out, since aromas are one of the most common asthmatic and migraine/nausea triggers. Thus, you can still collect the critters without compromising your child's health. I wonder if there is a "scentless" mode, where it's basically just a cute humidifier? I don't know how big these critters are compared to a child, but their stomachs look like they could fit a 250 ml container (plenty of water for a good night's sleep), and with their mouths being so large, I wonder if they're lined with a water-resistant material to prevent mould and mildew build up.

​​​@@tirramasu7948 From what I researched, Ylang Ylang is supposed to reduce anxiety and boost self-esteem. Vanilla is used as a fragrance by the Totanac in temples and used as good luck charm in amulets. Lemongrass is traditionally used as a pain reliever and fever reducer. Hope this helps.

I find it super interesting as it wasnt revealed prior that the sniling critters are Playtime Co's way of introducing aromatherapy to kids, which depending on the scent, it can determine if a kid is more energized or sleepy.. CatNap makes a lot of sense seen its the critter of sleep and lavendar helps people sleep. So with that in mind, someone mentioned it earlier.. but with this monsterous form of CatNap lurking around, my theory is that based on the steam article and then clues around us, we will be facing every smiling critter, with a couple of them being friendly.. I think if we wanted to deduct which ones will be friendly and which hostile, Id say kinda go based off of any of the smallest clues from the character bios and cartoon episode to determine all of that

Something I want to mention is that, depending on the search terms used, every scent has some use in lowering stress and/or anxiety. I know that is a common trait associated with this stuff, but I found it interesting given the conditions the kids were probably in.

If that's the case, my best guess so far for the friendly ones would be Dogday and Craftycorn. They stand out the most to me as friendly.

I work at a soap store and the fact that the Smiling Critters are suppose to help calm kids and help them sleep is a good idea, but only Catnap and Dogday would help in that way. Lavender and Vanilla are great help with sleeping, but Lemongrass and Citrus (depending on the kind)? Those actually keep your brain active. And with citrus being such a broad term, it could be a grapefruit scent, a lemon scent, a tropical fruity scent, all which actually help with giving you more energy. Jasmine and Rose are both floral scents which would no doubt smell good, but they actually don't help sleep. They're more just for perfumes and such, no special properties. Peppermint is actually an amazing thing for when you're sick. Whenever your sick, peppermint helps clear your a sinuses, can help with a headache, etc. All this to say that maybe the Smiling Critters all have different purposes, especially with their assigned roles. With Bobby Bearhug, maybe a child hugging and smelling the rose encourages them to share with other people, while Craftcorn helps the child focus when they're being artsy. I think they are still meant to be given to kids, but I don't think they're just to help with sleeping, based off what the scents are.

their scents aren't about sleeping (just catnaps mostly), they all share the common trait of being relaxing scents..they help relieve things like stress, anxiety, tension, ect; they make you feel better and are also pleasant scents (mostly from flowers, but they're all plant based scents..as in they come from plants or are the smell of plants) They remind me a lot of aromatherapy..therapy with scents, each has a different purpose and cures different things

What I truly love about poppy playtime is that it embodies everything that children horror/childhood nostalgia turned horror themed should be, it’s also not afraid to get gory and darker (mommy’s death and the theme of chapter 3, it also seems it just keeps getting scarier and darker everyone and I love it.

If you notice at 6:23, the amalgamation has ears of PickyPiggy, a Huggy body on it, as well as a heard of Bobby BearHug, this could mean that catnap isn't building a body for 1006 (considering you can't see a hand that's large/small enough for 1006 on the amalgamation), and instead is making a totally different creation...

I have a feeling that the zippers are gonna play a big role when it comes to the finale of Chapter 3, likely with Catnap's final form being an unzipped version of itself, so maybe a robot with a nozzle on the mouth that disperses the sleeping gas? Fun fact:if you look really closely at Bobby bearhug,catnap, and hoppy hopscotch's mouths, you can see what it appears to be a small tube inside in the middle of their giant smiles, which could be reason how these toys allow to dispel the scents of their own smells to help children to sleep. 1:20 (proof)

Something I’d like to point out: CatNap’s smoke is red and toxic, wouldn’t it make more sense if the red smoke is made of poisonous poppies? In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and friends ran through a field of red flowers before falling asleep… what were the flowers that made her and friends all pass out? Poisonous Poppies.

Something interesting about screenshot 4 is the content and order of the Mural. The first on the left and in the back is Huggy. Next is mommy. Below her in the foreground is PJ who can be considered a sort of miniboss of chapter two. To the right of him is Boxy Boo from Project Playtime. It seems very specific "boss" enemies that we, the audience would already have encountered are being depicted in the order of their main introduction/relavance to us. No other enemies are shown depsite us ahveing seen/faced off against several others so their specific relavance seems purpiseful. We also see a large space on the murla beyond this and to the very far left is a vent with clawmarks that have been hinted to be caused by Catnap. It coyld be as simple as recogbizing Catnap will be the big bad of the chapter but could be hinting at simething else as well. One thing I take is that it may be giving us a hint he is actually going to be a miniboss with a twist reveal for the main boss. The vent is low on the wall and the clawmarks make it seem roughly the size of the smaller, forehround creatures, infering Catnap would have popped out if that part of the mural if it came to life. It seems clear Catnap killed Huggy who has no miniboss but Bocy Boo also has no larger boss figure in his game (as of yet.) Howver, we know that there is cultike talk about a savior and a sacrifice that the dethrowned huggy surely was..we also have hints at the prototpe playing a big part. This kid who was attempted to be helped by the prototype but injured..a kid who was diffeeent form the others..perhaps Catnap is this kid and when transformed helped the protoype with the intial breakout? The abilty to extrete this layghter/sleep gas WOULD be a good explaination on how things turned so fast. He still seems to be a servernt to the savior though..would would amke sense to be the prototypw if Catnap is the kid. I think the mural is helping us recognize that Catnap will be the puppet but pur first encounter with the prototype or a higher minion of it may be the true boss of this chapter. We are getting lots of focus on Catnap so if it is indeed a fakeout, it is a clever one. Our attebtiin is being clearly drawn to catnap but everything it is sating is thta it is just a su seriant pawn..not the masterrmind. It would seem too early to bring the prototype in and being a pawn of it doesnt inheritantly mean Catnap cant be the big boss of the chapter. It is interesting however to recognize that Catnap seems to have a very different view of the Prototype from Mommy. Its infered the prototype is what helped free the toys to take over..but we dont het confirmation they all follwed him. Mommy seems to dislike and fear the prototype and being a part of it. I think weve assumed they all worked together to take over but i think it was more a prison riot situation. They all inheritantly want to be free and have their own agressive motivations. I think the prototype and Catnap were rhe only two ACTUALLY working together to free the other toys, cause pandemonium and hopefully take over or get away in the panic. This is why they did NOT all escape and gave their own territories in the fiactory. I think they have NOT all been cooperating together in one goal to get out but when warlord in the power vaccume after the fall if the factory. THe different toys claimed territories and created their own seperate niches that they continue to exist in while the prototype and Catnap (along with any other followers not yet, seen if any) are attempting to gain what thye beed to get free despite the new obsticle course they inadvertantly made. Now Huggy and Mommy are taken down with mateirals needed from them taken. You are also freeing up these areas to be more safe for the Protoype to manuver through or accesss. So far, the only Big Boddied toys weve seen contain adult souls but Catnap may contian a child's. In addition yo being a child already cooperating with the protoype, the fact the adult souled toys seem to have an aversion to adults of aby nature may also be why Catnap is so i.portant to the prototype. The other Big Boddies would see him as an adumt souled being and show hostility as we see in MLL but perhaps one with a childs soul would see it as a parental figure to obey. Kissy Missy is the only seemingly friendly big boddy toward adults so far..and there may be reason for it. Its already been highly specilated that KM is actually Stella for a plethora of reasons. Stella was shown to be an adult still with a very unbroken childlike wonder and spirit. This may have translated to her still having a very childlike soul and thus act as one in her new toy form. Having both potantial qualities of an adult and child's soul she may be the key in uniting the other toys thanks to this balance. She could be a mother figure for Catnap that seems more safe than the other unhinged ones but also have enough childlike quakities that the other big bodies wont feel threatened. Regaurldess, I do feel Catnap is the kid the Protype was grooming and the mural along with the other supporting teaser info supports that. I think HE was how the takeover actually occured and why things are left in the fuedal system they currently are. Also, there is only one plushy, a beheaded Huggy. This seems to just be more connections tot he fact a characrer leaving clawmarks (most likley catnap) got to the injured huggy, finished it off, left it decapitated as a sacrifice and is currently roaming about free.

you make a lot of good points. I do wonder if there are bigger-body versions of the other Smiling Critters as well, and whether those souls would be adult or child. You make a really good point about the adult vs child souls and how Kissy seems to be the only friendly bigger-body due to bein childlike in nature. Perhaps the adult souls have just seen to much and their developed brains are more cynical... I also have my thoughts there concerning Poppy, as she seems more calm compared to HW and MLL considering she's likely the soul of the CEO's daughter. just a thought :)

I think something is up with candycorn as in its description it says ‘conscious observer’ which could link to them being possibly a neutral character. Another thing to note which may just be a coincidence is that in the smiling criters title card candycorn is the only one with their eyes closed which could signify that they know what is going on but do want to intefere and just block it out

After I saw The Smiling Critters video, I noticed something about CatNap's special gas that comes out of his mouth. The gas itself may be similar to The Joker's Joker Venom from the Batman lore: It makes you laugh till you die, with a creepy grin stuck to your face. CatNap's gas might work in a similar way.

For me, two things are very clear right now: a) The orphans are being used to present a good image of the company while creating living toys as well (look at us, we create such advanced toys, make a bunch of money out of people that no one would notice if they vanished, but we're still so nice to them that we even have a playground and trees, give them a second chance, so nice of us, we should get a statue) b) Catnap is definitely murdering all the other smiling critters on that cartoon episode (I say that because on the image where they all appear together with the name Smiling Critters, CraftyCorn has their eyes closed. at 8:10 the things discribed as sanitation stations, they arent quite that. those are eye wash stations/ emergancy showers. they are usually around when there are toxic chemicals. we have them in warehouses i work at, usually because they are near where [for example] we have our forklift trucks, which old ones run on water and battery acid to keep the things functioning for charging. i think while the use might be close, i think it could be those stations were used with maybe more concentrated doses of the sleep chemicles and such perhaps

why do i get the feeling that theodore's "accident" involving electricity is gonna be more than just a throwaway detail? assuming catnap is theodore, it could easily be that electricity will not only be a way to activate stuff, but also a defensive measure. his near death experience that led to his transformation could cause a PTSD response of sorts and lead him to avoid areas with obvious electrical components, avoid getting in close range of a charged grab pack hand, or even simply hate us more because our electrical hand reminds him of what happened. it could also hint that smacking him with a charged green hand can stun him temporarily or stop him from using the smoke. and maybe its foreshadowing how we kill catnap, perhaps by luring it into a generator and electrocuting him.

@@raptorsuedemondrake4143 Regarding the electricity not being a throw away detail? Yeah it gets brought back in a rather interesting way regarding CatNap by the end. For what actually happens I'll try and put it under a read more so no one gets spoiled 💀 In the boss fight with CatNap, the final blow against him is actually via electricity. It seems to be the one thing in the entire game that caused him genuine pain. Of course now that I have this context (didn't know about Theodore and his incident with the electricity and the Prototype) this just makes the ending of the fight all the more fucked up and tragic.

I'm just gonna say this right now that those "sanitation stations" are actually showers and eye washers used in science labs in order to wash an unwanted and dangerous substance, like fire or a toxic liquid, out of their body or eyes. I would know, I've been in my school science labs and seen enough lab safety videos to know this. However, I do find it interesting for it to be in an infirmary of all places instead of a lab.

Honestly, I believe these toys and characters never saw the light of day; they were strictly for the orphans and the orphans only. It doesn't sound like Playco. to drop such creepy toys and cartoons without thinking about how the public would react. Just as the Mommy Longlegs toy was invented due to the actual experiment’s interaction with the children, the whole Scentsy Smiling Critters concept was only a preemptive half-truth cover-up created by the company to hide the true purpose of the dolls, which was to knock out the orphans. I think someone in the comments of the previous video brought up how the toys and cartoons could have been used as desensitization methods against the orphans to get them to accept the shown gassing dolls more readily. Hence, there is a considerable discrepancy between the 2D Smiling Critters and their dolls, which you don't see with the other characters, and also why you don't see them painted anywhere on the upper floor, which is open to the public but everywhere below.

8:05 I’m currently in a class to be an EMT and that is actually an eye wash station and shower. Not a sink. The sink shaped part has a little lever on the side that you pull to make is spray out water into your eyes and the shower is activated by pulling the thing hanging off of the top. This indicates that whoever is in there REALLY doesn’t want whatever they are administering to the children in or on them at all. (Sorry about the rant I just figured I would point that out)

Something i noticed as well (wc may not mean anything) is that among all the critters' charms, only catnap's is glowing/clean while the others' are either dimmed/rusty-looking wc may indicate that the others have fallen under catnap's control (a possible side effect of the laughing gas) or just them being dead
