Can see why Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke were/are so pissed. Would never know they were the other half of The Smiths.

They were a very large part of the Smiths.

If you were a Smiths fan, you even knew who Craig Gannon was so you must have been a casual fan.

The whole timeline around the 'split' was very weird. Strangeways was finished in April & Marr leaves the band in late July yet Stephen Street was sending demos to Morrissey as early as August with Moz saying he wants to do a solo album. These things don't happen overnight. Obviously some thought & possibly 'planning' went into this. I think Moz was thinking about going solo even during or very soon after Strangeways was recorded. And Street must've had an inkling as he had material ready to go. Moz says he was forced to go solo for contractual obligations with EMI. Well, whatabout Johnny? He was signed to EMI also.

The alternative is that they stay together forever doing the same old thing. Which is okay if you are The Rolling Stones. But not creative or beneficial to anyone other than those ticking off things on their bucket lists by seeing them 'live'. Also The Beatle members' solo efforts were compared to The Beatles. It's inevitable when you are an iconic, trailblazing band like The Smiths. I loved them, and I still do.

No one ever debates whether McCartney solo is better than/as good as The Beatles. The reason people debate it in the case of Morrissey and The Smiths, is that without doubt there have been many moments (and I would say are still moments) in Morrissey's solo career which have touched greatness of that calibre. For Morrissey to have created so many good albums - as the singer and band-leader, he must have exceptional sensibility for music - for what works and what doesn't - to know what to ditch, and what will soar. I think he is quite underappreciated in that respect.

I like the smiths, and understand the following behind them. I was a teenager in the 90’s. The time I really heard Morrissey was the your arsenal album and Vauxhall and I. I was so blown away by those 2 albums , my whole musical taste changed. I really think that those two albums are the best that he ever put out even against the smiths catalog. That’s my humble opinion

How old are these interviews? This is almost irrelevant now cos Johnny has had three solo albums since, and Mozzer has virtually destroyed his career with both his social standing in the uk (where his popularity REALLY matters!) and a dire new album “I am not a dog on a chain” which has the worst try hard at not being a racist song in “Bobby do you think they know” (done with Thelma Houston of all people!)that i’ve ever heard! It’s absolute shite honestly and Johnny’s doing much better solo now than ever! So this video means nothing now!!!!

Johnny Marr’s solo stuff is shit. Seen him live a magnitude of times and it sounds so bad and every song drags on longer than it needs to and the lyrics are all nonsense sounding pop crap
