I love this song so much, i find it melancholic, romantic, gothic and so deeply sad but beautiful. When i listen to it, i see a secret overgrown English garden with a gothic overgrown Victorian fountain, pinned butterflies; creatures caught in their youth their beauty in bloom in their short lives pinned and killed for display of this short lived purity and beauty, the narrator then being pinned down his innocence killed, like a innocent creature himself, by the person pinning the butterflies. I see the garden as a secret location for an older reclusive man, perhaps someone the narrator admires for writings he had created or some such something that allowed a parasocial relationship where he fell for the man, and in his purity and inncoence he tries to love this man rejected by others, but the man uses the younger taking what he wants then discarding him perhaps. This older, secretive, slightly sadistic man being a recluse from society in his secret garden with the fountain, who has withdrawn from others feeling hated, but is apricated by the narrator, even though he taking advantage of him [the narrator], his youth vulnerability and inncoence, with things eventually breaking down perhaps in part due to the constraints of the secrecy. Maybe him [the narrator] longing to be respected and taken to somewhere and loving and cozy as the man's bed, but instead being shoved against this cold stone secret fountain instead. Two lumps please, being sweet sugar he wishes for these sweet homely moments with the other man, but instead in his secrecy and unwillingness to love another, the narrator is refused these moments, your the bees knees, a very sweet innocent playful phrase but also suggesting sweetness and a garden, spring, innocence and youth, your the bees knees but so am I - the narrator realising his worth, that he has to move on from this man who cannot love and accept him fully. 🐝⛲💔🦋🪻 ( If it were a gay relationship, the astmosphere at the time in 80s towards it, might have snuffed it out in some way, forcing the secrecy, the secrecy keeping them bound in this secret waning garden.) So beautiful, just enchanting. I could listen this until my ears fall off
