I truly believe the Meat is Murder is their best album. I don't know if that is personal bias or not, but I feel like it really displays the band. It makes really upset none of the songs on the record ever made it to a "best of" or are mentioned in any review of The Smiths.

It's the best smuths album The head master ritual is a brilliant opener and I love the bass line What she said has some brilliant vocals and a decent song I want the one I can't have is the greatest song on this album and one of the best smiths song ever Rusholme ruffians is very catchy and nice That joke isn't funny anymore is so sad and touching Nowhere fast is also catchy and got one of the greatest lines ever Barbarian begins at home is sooo good and what a bass line And neat is murder is so haunting I don't agree with the lyrics but it's such a good song it's amazing I think that's every song I'm too tired to check 😂

I find that whenever a band has a resurgence, the actual extent of their creativity as musicians is replaced by idolization as people instead, which is detrimental to the smiths’ legacy considering how musically incomparable they were at the time and still are. It will truly never be recreated and thats what so special about them.

the smiths are a band that have simultaneously made my taste infinitely better, but my mental health infinitely worse. Johnny Marr Is Jesus, preach his word. How Soon Is Now? happens to be my absolute favourite song of all time, so i’m happy my favourite music critic has finally covered their work, no band except maybe The Ramones, The Beatles, Iron Maiden Maybe? has affected me in such a way. so thankful for this retrospective.

a quick note i’d like to make on Meat Is Murder, i think the title track is what holds it back from being a 10/10. not due to the lyrics or the music, but because it’s the closer and it’s roughly the same length as “How Soon Is Now?”. if they put that on the album instead (trust me i listened to it like that, it works), nothing would hold it back from being the best album of all time.

I honestly think Meat is Murder is their best album. I do see what Marr is saying about stuff being "too fast" though, but I really think it's a benefit rather than a detriment to the songs on the album, except for the title track. The title track Meat is Murder is a little too fast on record, but its not intolerable. MIM is a great, great record.

It's their best official album for sure. No doubt. But the titular song is complete rant devoid of any plausabe musical or lyrical spark. Rogan's questioning of the line 'death for no reason is murder' is more than valid AND potent
@Callie_FL3 ай бұрын
Excellent retrospective! As an OG Smiths obsessive you hit the highlights. Not to be an apologist, but Marr explained in his bio that as the band had no manager, he & Moz took care of all "business" stuff themselves, hence why they kept a bigger slice of the pie. IMO it was shitty to not split things like merch & performance money 4 ways, and a lot of bands do put everyone's names on songs to be more supportive & "band like"

my only complaint is the host has the library already completed, growing up with The Smiths, waiting for each single and the excitement that came when they were released cannot be captured afterward, especially when the only mainstream radio absolutely refused to play The Smiths. Idk to each their own i feel bad about eating meat but its to engrained in me i feel and i do enjoy it sometimes

Well, you don't have much of a choice but to live in a house. Living on the street is dangerous for several reasons. And, you can eat different things other than meat and live your life the same way you did before. The worst that could happen is you might have to take vitamin supplements. Which is something I do anyway, and I eat meat. But, I'm iron deficient.
