The darkest of lyrics, the catchiest of tunes. Morrissey and Marr are unbeatable :)

This is what I call a "Duck Song" - normally paced vocals with furiously paced playing underneath. I LOVE songs like this ❤ 🎵

I always got the impression that it was a bloke who'd fallen for his best friend but his best friend can't handle it and Morrissey is asking what difference it makes just because they're both the same sex. There are also references to the other person being prejudiced and making the singer feel ashamed. He also says 'now you know the truth about me you won't see me anymore' Remember, this was the eighties and this kind of thing could ruin you if people found out.

Most Smiths songs are about being in love with straight guys. Poor Moz 😢

One of things that drew me to The Smiths, was how original most of their music sounded as it came out. Like it or hate it, they are unique.

Ah, one of their best IMO. Johnny Marr = Riff King. Usta try to get this one through on the other channel but could never get the votes; glad you finally got to it! "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" is another banger 🔥

Smiths are cool. The ppl on Lex channel were usually older crowd that weren't into older alternative music. Brad's channel crowd is more diverse and younger too

The Smiths are the most unique and original band ever. I used to marvel at the dichotomy between the singing and upbeat riffs too.

I've always interpreted these lyrics as being about a guy telling a close male friend that he's in love with him, but being rejected.

Smiths just don't disappoint. Riffy as all hell. And, dude, your shirts are just killing me! ;)

This was one of their biggest hits. It's a good one! It has the driving jangly beat and riff and Morrissey's warbling. If you haven't yet reacted, "How Soon Is Now?" is the ultimate Smiths song.

We went with the music back when. The lyrics to their songs were always hard to pin down, in part because Morrissey sometimes wrote songs about movies he had seen or books he had read rather than his personal experiences. "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" for example. The falsetto runs in the fading sections here point to the future backing vocals in "Bigmouth Strikes Again".

😂😂I like it… a vocal inflection by Mr Mozza himself! I think it’s almost a yodel. Shd try ‘barbarism begins at home’ or (for new wave) seventeen by The Regents

This is classic 'gay man has a major crush on a bad boy straight guy'. The str8 guy is taking advantage of him, and he is so infatuated that he goes along with lying, cheating, and stealing for the object of his misplaced affection. Now listen again and I think the lyrics will make a lot more sense. Also, Johnny Marr's guitar in this is killer. He's arguably the best New Wave guitarist of the 80's. Thanks for watching and sharing! Peace from SF

You are absolutely right....BAD. THE nature of their music is confusion. Between the lyrics and the beat of the music, drums, guitars and psychedelics is entrancing...🎉
