How can a Meerkat survive enough venom to kill ten people?!?
@amyholt6508 жыл бұрын
Something about their evolution. Badgers are similar. If they go into a sleep-like state for 24 hours the venom works it's way through the body and eventually they excrete it. Then their bodies can recuperate from it in the following weeks. But it doesn't always work. The difference in humans is that we haven't come in contact enough with snake venom for our bodies to learn to withstand it. So essentially we have a no immunity to it.

I once saw an hour long documentary about meerkats, I 1st thought it was this one, but it seems a different one. It illustrated a meerkat clan which lived near an other meerkat clan, that wanted to take over their habitat. There was some back and forth between them, can't remember exactly if they lost their home to them, but they had to move and started a long journey to a different place. And right at that time, one member got bitten just like here (can't remember his name, I call him Brave 😎), and was struggling really hard and about to die. The other clan members could not wait on him due to the timeframe they had to get to a safe and appropriate place, so they had to move on without him. They were migrating for several days and found a place. In the meanwhile poor Brave was very weak and couldn't walk anymore, so he lay down and waited for his destiny 😢. It past about a week and the clan already got used to their new home and were doing the ordinary activities, which a typical meerkat family does, searching for food, eating their most loved menu like scorpions, the younger members were playing, others were keeping guard etc. One day the guardsman among the clan was standing in the typical meerkat stance 😄 and noticed something heading towards their territory. He immediately began to make some noises of concern and with every meter the danger came closer, he was increasing his warning sounds. At a certain distance he recognized, that it was another meerkat, so his alarming sounds went off like crazy, since it was recently, that they had to battle for their home! The whole clan was alarmed and they all were ready to fight again. Then when the stranger meerkat got closer and closer, at some 20 meters or so, they felt something was strange, it didn't make sense and they still were nervous. When the other meerkat then came close about some 10 meters, they couldn't believe their eyes, BRAVE has fully recovered and was even able to track and find his beloved clan, all by himself, except by the mercy of God! The meerkat clan was so happy, excited and flattering, and the whole family embraced Brave again into their clan 😭😄 As long as my memory serves me right, I won't forget that, that was so amazing to see, it was heartbreaking and gratifying at the same time 😊

Truth. Goes back to Genesis. We were given dominion over nature to steward and care for it but man fell from God and a curse came into the world. That is why even though we know this is how the way things currently are, we still feel the instinct to help animals. This is one of the many internal conflicts between light and dark humans face. Caring for nature was our original job. Animals never used to kill eachother and neither did people. We are under a fallen order, not God's original order.

I feel like everyone in this comments section is missing the point of these shows - OBSERVATION. That means watching how these animals survive without interfering. Animals live and die for a reason. If too many members of one species survives, the habitat becomes overcrowded. It's easy to say, "Aw, why didn't they try heal him?", but imagine if they did that for every meerkat. Soon, meerkats would be outnumbering all the other animals, and this would wreak havoc on the ecosystem. They'd eat all the insects, which would affect the plants, which would affect grazing animals. Death happens for a reason - it's all part of the balance of nature. The scientists studying these animals know that, which is why they don't interfere. However heartbreaking it is to watch one meerkat die, deaths are essential to the continuation of the species. It also helps eliminate weaker members from the gene pool, strengthening the group.

Still, when they are suffering, at least humanely euthanize them.

i couldnt do that work, because i know i would grab that animal and i would give him a shot of an antidote against snake venom asap, and that would be interefering with mother nature... well, i couldnt stand and wait to see if he was going to make it on his own... i am human, and i would help him.

Animals are resilient! My sisters German Shepherd was bit by a rattle snake. I swear he slept for like 3 days and bounced back. Was fully 100% but damn near it after a week with no vet treatment. If animals are healthy and strong that can overcome near anything.

I remember when courageous little Shakespeare got bitten by a snake and also survived. Poor guy was never the same, naturally, but he lived.

Yes, they most likely could have, they just chose not to. There are actually many documentaries that show how people intervene in cases of emergency and show compassion. It could be a deer stuck somewhere, elephant babies dying from dehydration because they lost their mothers, and so on. There is no rule of law saying we cannot help someone who needs it - whether it be our species or another.

All of those involve humans, this has nothing to do with humans. Also take away a meerkat from its group and your probably gonna kill it with stress

people l ike that are cut from an old cloth, they have the ability to see the real in time of chaos and its beautiful, never expected and the filling of hope that arrives is overwhelming, if i receive such in time of need that would bring the feeling of safety and happiness something never experience on that level, it feels as ifi was going to drown, i was about ready to climb the diving board. Then some miraculous events took place, as Athersmith said stress would definitely come along, more like shock, but hoping its a revival kind of shock to point in the right directions, as the meerkats stayed in a enemies hole or he wouldn't have got bitten. Sometimes that happens when not many options, in the jungle its so hard to find a caring person. i would be so grateful for just ONE, my life could be turned around. My journey so far as been so rough. I guess that's why im so tough. But sometimes it seems lately i am running out of strength. I have no means to get the necessities needed to apply structure and stability. That alone with feeling safe is some people's dream, i have a brother i want to be there for. IF only it would ring, im hoping to get a response for a remote position or something i can do with what i have access to. currently. i see more clearly than ever and know if i was presented with anything it could not be shared , dreams are better left to yourself, others want to tear them down, if only i cant just build us back up. enma..i....l.........m.............e
