Because you 'authorized' the transaction (illicit transaction, mind you,) you want this PROOF because the Credit Card company 'can/might' dispute your dispute ("you authorized the transaction") -and you'll want your receipt to show date/time/place/provider A number of Canadians have been so-duped this way in Mexico recently by paying for a taxi ride and thinking the transacted say, $20, only to get home a month later and see that they were dinged for $2000 ! And the Credit Card company want to see 'proof' -where's your receipt?? Hopefully the receipt doesn't say "$2000" but even if it DOES, -a "two thousands dollar Taxi fare" is highly contestable and the Credit Card company will no no standing to maintain that this was legit. -You get reimbursed.

There are banks in Canada where each time you make a new function it re-asks for the password again. When I use my card I make sure the transaction is closed. If someone wants to talk to me at the ATM, I tell them to stand back and let me be alone. I never let anyone hold my card. I have zero trust. Even when I go in to a store if I don't personally know the person working there I never let them hold my card. The problem with cards work with tapping, there is no password required for purchases if there is no password required.

She only wanted $20.00. That's one bill. And since she got it - why go back to get "stuck' money? That's how good a 'confidence' game can be. Make you believe anything. Now, the "Victor" card - somehow she didn't notice until later? When later? Onto the fraudster lady, who withdrew 3 $4,000 transactions. Bank had to have done everything wrong if they paid the customer back. UNLESS she did have a PIN thru the first guy looking over Megan's shoulder OR a skimming device on the machine that read the card & got the PIN. EVEN if fraudster lady did have a PIN, she should have been flat out nailed on transaction number 3 as the total of cash withdrawn now exceeded $10,000 and the system would prompt the teller to gather information to complete a Currency Transaction Report prior to distributing the cash. In that case, info & physical ID is required to be asked & viewed. It's too weird.

They must be different in the UK. You can't do ANYTHING without your pin. The machine asks do you want to do anything else, you close the transaction, THEN you get your card back, then your money. ATMs where you just tap your card aren't really a thing in the UK either; the few that allow it it's done from a secure app on your phone.

Greetings Boyd, helpful video with great tips. My biggest takeaway is NEVER TRUST a stranger at a bank (especially the ATM). A good friend told me a while ago about someone putting some type of device on the machine so your card gets "stuck". Of course they left the bank and the other person has your card. I use ATM machines (not that often), primarily because I work during the day when the branch is open. When I use the machine, I don't insert my card, most machines will have the option to tap the card to start your transaction.. ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. WHY in the world would ANYONE give their card to a stranger????

I once forgot my ATM card pin, so I went into the bank for a new one. The teller generated a new pin and never asked for any ID. I was shocked. I regret not reporting her.

Always trust your instincts and never assume anything. Learn how to profile people successfully. What does that mean? Learn body language, eye movement, facial expressions and overall body energy. Usually if someone comes up to you to start a random conversation, they usually want something from you and they will attempt to obtain it lawfully or not.

When you slip your credit/debit card into that folio every time you get your bill at a restaurant, you turn your card over to a stranger. Do you know what they are doing when they take your card to the back to run it? Nope. Do not use ATMs. Go inside of a bank and deal with a teller. Keep some cash stashed just in case. Use a prepaid debit card to buy things like gas and food.

I pay in cash when I go out to eat. The only time I use my card is when I pay before I eat. I've been suspicious about my card usage, especially after I heard of thefts occurring on the news years ago. You don't really know what people could be doing to your cards when not in your sight.

Hello. I was just in Thailand. I used my debit card a lot because my credit card got hacked on the second day of my visit. I know you recommend credit cards over debit cards. What to do in a situation as this? I had no issues with my debit card and only used it a ATM. Thank you in advance.

First never give your card to a stranger. Second when conducting financial transactions back the f away from me until I am finished ( somehow we have gotten away from this in America, even in the grocery store line. One time this lady was so close to I had to ask was she going to pay for my groceries or was she going to let me get them, she had the nerve to get mad) even the cashier was like she was uncomfortably close.

I have very long arms and will stretch them out if folks get too close. Then I say Covid and they usually back up. My roommate wouldn't allow me to confront this guy @ the Pharmacy area. Being retired healthcare worker (and Army) I was going to say HIPAA violation which it was. Next time I'm whipping out my phone, record the jackass as I tell them HIPAA violation. Oh the guy stood right there with us, a no no. BTW if you're not recording porn, you can record anyone with your phone...First Amendment covers you.

I’m 69 and I’m a target. Learned YEARS ago anyone else around an atm I considered possible harm. I would not go in to use it. It was in a separate area with doors so I’d wait outside. No one left I go in a guy comes in behind me TRYS to stand close to me! I stopped my transaction grabbed my card put it in my purse tell him back the f up or I’ll wait till he’s done and come back. He flipped out cussin me out -well he TRIED I was already to my car he TRIED to chase me but I hauled ass! Later, as a local bartender sheriff came in with his wife-off duty; shared my story and he stated oh yeah he looked like this I go yeah WE GOT HIM!!! Whaaat omg thank you! He said jokingly you should teach classes lol. Turns out he was attacking n beating people to get their card n money. Mostly elderly! I don’t use them also because those things they insert into all things used by public to steal your money and info.

First, I never use an ATM Unless it’s inside the bank lobby. Second, I only have my debit card linked to a checking account that doesn’t have that much money in it and if I need some, I transferred it there before I withdraw it. Third, never hand your card to a stranger. And forth, whenever I withdraw money at Bank of America, I always have to enter my pin for my debit card, so how did they withdraw money without the pin number or providing adequate identification?

A similar issue happen in BoA a few months back with someone I know. She lost her card and did not realize it a guy found it and when to the back presented it not "remembering" the pin but was able to get money with a pin or ID. BoA tried to give her the run around until they checked the CCTV to determine it was fault it took about a month to get her money back. It make you wonder about the training of these bank personnel...smh

With my schedule and lifestyle that last time I used an ATM was decades ago. We have branches of both the bank and CU we use just a few blocks from us and we don't use cash for much other than minor day to day expenses. So we just swing by once in awhile and get enough cash to last us a few months. Which isn't really that much cash.
