Love MLS and it’s my favorite soccer league in the world. That being said, I wish they would make things less complicated and let teams spend more. Also hate how some teams can’t hold on and resign players because of the salary cap. Also it would help to make it more appealing to casual fans. Love these videos. Cheers from a fellow soccer fan in the South Bay.

I think the HGP rule modifications is heavily motivated by Columbus' humiliating 4-0 loss at home to the Sounders that cost them any chance at the Shield. Their keeper was sent off and they had no backup. This was due to injuries, call-ups, and various other issues winnowing the roster down to just one keeper available. Now, the crew had various mechanisms available to address this on a short term basis. Sign a guy on a short term contract, call up one of their youth guys, some others I don't recall. Calling up the youth players in particular they didn't want to do because they were both at the point they would have needed first team contracts, and the Crew thought they weren't ready. For whatever reason, the Crew decided none of the other options available to make sure there was a backup keeper was available was acceptable so they went without. That gamble _really_ backfired. Nancy was livid, and had a press conference criticizing the league. There was a brief news cycle about it. Anyway, I think that’s why that rule change was included.

Max I have been a big fan of yours since you were alone calling Argentine Primera División games. I became a Boca Jr fan because of you which I have dropped in favor of the Whitecaps as my second club next to the Sounders. Do you see the MLS expanding before the AppleTV deal runs out? And if so where? Also are you still in LA? If so, How close are you to the fires?

Unfortunately, these changes do nothing to bring in the casual soccer fan (or soccer fans who don’t currently follow MLS). Just think, will this do anything to increase dismal TV viewership?

No argument. Should be #1 priority in 2025, build that TV audience.

don't see TV viewing growing in US market.. too much competition out side of Mexican American, people don't watch soccer on TV except some premier league games

I tuned into this video hoping that there was going to be news that the rules of MLS would be streamlined and more understandable so that I could finally pay attention to it. I want to pay attention to it. I would like to play FM using the MLS because it would be a chance to do something new and cool. But the bottom line is that until they make the league easier and transparent to understand, like every other league on earth, I’m not going to devote the brain space or time on something that promises a mediocre product. A product that conceivably I could watch live for fun even if not at top quality. So it’s sad and it’s a missed opportunity, but that kind of sums up the MLS system, doesn’t it?

The 2 key points are pretty easy. You have an internal transfer system now. Can buy players off other MLS rosters. The summer window expands to match Europe making signing foreign players much easy. Its a fun league and its ours. Not watching at least a few games because of interpretation is not a good reason. Thanks for tuning in.

I am an Inter Miami fan, so at least I have that. MLS never seems like they are targeting new fans, especially non-soccer fans. In my opinion, that is Don Gabrers' greatest weakness. MLS has been terrible at generating TV money, and they have been very bad at converting the typical American sports fan. He has been great at expansion, soccer specific stadiums, and team valuations. It's a solid business but they need better marketing.

MLS should never try to out-bid Asian-Leagues for aging Super Stars. Or spend $10million for MX's failure (Vasquez)! MLS should let teams use transfers, sponsorship or merch money for players.
