This is a bang average team. Poch can not fix American culture. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not watch football or is blinded.
@stewartrickert23332 ай бұрын
Poch IMO is one of the most over-rated average managers in world football. He's done nothing special IMO. But that's the beauty of sports. Time will tell. Either I'll be proven right or , as someone who hopes to see the US do well, hopefully, be proven wrong

I would love to hear your thoughts on our current GK situation. I don’t think we should be wasting any more starts on Turner. We should be throwing different keepers in there and see who we got. I think GK is our most crucial position we’ve got to figure out soon.

After you factor in everyone who was unable to be called up for varying reasons, there aren’t a ton of guys who aren’t here that I’d like to see here. Perhaps Griffin Yow and/or Paxton Aaronson should be here with our major void of options at winger, and Reynolds vs Fossey is debatable, but I’m overall happy. Horvath is clearly only here so we have 2 experienced keepers to show Kochen the ropes in training. Name a more iconic duo than USMNT fans and overlooking squad dynamics. Also anyone saying where is Gaga, Barnsley has competitive matches during this break, why would we remove him from competitive fixtures to sit on the bench in friendlies? The soccer world does not revolve around the USMNT
@JakeLandau2 ай бұрын
Yup exactly. Would rather have Gaga stay and keep getting minutes for club. He's not going to start or play in these friendlies anyway.
@definitelynotchadfish2 ай бұрын
I agree. But I’m dying to see Gaga or any keeper not named Turner in goal and get minutes. Especially in friendlies. I would rather have an 18 year old Diego Cochen in goal getting minutes he might make a mistake or two and getting experience than a 30 year old keeper in goal who I know is going to make mistakes and has a low Ceiling and likely has already passed his prime.

Morris is a baller. It’s so easy to forget how young he still is. The youngest ever starter in an MLS Cup final, guy had already won two MLS Cups by age 22. You’re super right in the intrigue of Morris being developed by Nancy; but I think another overlooked subplot is that he basically honed his craft in real-time from mentor Darlington Nagbe. Those two together in the midfield were terrifying to watch. I could definitely see Morris bringing significant upside to the USMNT.
@chazmaru95832 ай бұрын
USMNT fans must really have been in a traumatic relationship with the Berhalter Bros. to think getting Pochettino is great news. Especially considering the issues you had with MLS vs US Soccer vs agents political meddling; he has been a notorious chicken in that regard, both at Chelsea and PSG, never opposing (mis)management above him. Wishing you guys the best but Nancy would have been a way better choice IMO.
@TheLaughingMustache-oh5ff2 ай бұрын
Personally I would have rested Pulisic and let him stay with his team to see the other winger choices.

Maybe I'm an outlier, but I'm OK if we stick with Turner at GK for now. He obviously needs to get into a club situation where he plays consistently, but his trouble playing out of the back isn't a major concern for me. I prioritize his shot stopping ability, which I think will come back with a stable club situation. I think the playing out of the back problem was compounded by GGG's rigidity and demands. Ideally we'd play a style where we try to build from the back in certain situations, but give both our GK and defenders the freedom to dump the ball forward when under pressure. I think that alleviates a lot of the problems that Turner was experiencing. Even when it comes to his shot stopping abilities, because I think with the USMNT he was mentally stressed with the demands of playing out of the back at all costs, and that started to impact his positioning and mindset with other fundamentals. Behind Turner we should open up the competition to the younger three of Schulte/Slonina/Kochen. Enough with the mediocre choices like Horvath or Johnson, who don't offer anything that Turner doesn't already. I get the scenario of Barnsley having a game during this window, but we could have brought Slonina in to play one of these games. What would have been the harm in that? Plus, I think the rule is that if a League One team has 3 or more players out on international duty, they receive a postponement of their league game. I'm just not sure if there were 2 other international players on their roster.

U.S. Soccer seems to be just selecting dual-nationals in Europe rather than trying to improve the quality of play of the USMNT. Apparently, all the Latino players are going to be passed over as well as any young MLS players or MLS players in general. It would be great if the worst team our players played for was like Fiorentina, but that isn’t the case. Rather than letting the skilled players get experience and improve, US Soccer thinks they can just plug in bad players like Lund. Zack Steffen is miles ahead of Kochen & Slonina.
@DerekLangdon-w9e2 ай бұрын
Until you have a decent pro/rel league, you will have to continue to scour the world for second rate players. A prime example is Folarin Balogun, who is a premier league, and England reject! MLS and pay to play, is holding back US soccer development!
