But the whole making him a literal psychopath thing totally threw that sympathy out the window which left me really confused on how to feel. The shows literally called “the society” it’s about the difficulties of creating a functioning society from nothing and learning where the line of ethics should be drawn in a situation where the wrong decision means the downfall of everyone, and whether or not a bunch of teenagers even have the emotional and mental capabilities to make those choices, follow through and step up to the plate to coexist together in relative harmony. The mystery is a side story. part of, but separate from the main story. if the show was focusing on the mystery it would have been called “dimensions” or “twin planet” or something ridiculous like that

But that shouldn't just be reflected in the title, it should be reflected in how the story is introduced. The story is introduced with the smell and the mystery, with the society being an afterthought. Then the society part takes over and the mystery is left behind. Yes clearly the title wants to focus on the societal aspect but it should be earned through the story, or, at least, not overshadowed by more interesting aspects like, for example: why do their cell phones specifically work with each other's phones but can't communicate with anyone outside of this? Does that mean there are cell towers and service providers? Raising these questions just to focus on something else, even if it is what the author set out to write (as evidenced by the title), is poor storytelling.

Stuart Stedman yes, but those mysteries are there to work alongside the main story line, for example without the smell, the parents wouldn’t have failed to pay the man in the office who wouldn’t have had to take the kids away who wouldn’t have had to rebuild together and learn to co-exist. They’re not going to give all the answers to all the questions because those answers intertwine with the main story which they’re hoping will be around awhile. honestly we probably won’t even get any real answers until they’re ready to wrap up the show for good. That is if they don’t get canceled first instead which is a common Netflix occurrence 🤷🏻‍♀️

Personally, having a group that felt more invested in finding answers or getting home more than that one girl sitting at the bus stop for an episode would have helped me with my suspension of disbelief when it came to the rest of the issues.”the society” aspect of the show entered so quickly and became center stage so quickly that I felt jarred. You’re totally right that the society is what the writers wanted to focus on. I just felt the path to making that the focus away from the alternate dimension is unearned even if the title alerts the viewer what the focus of the show is. Stuart Stedman yeah I do think it could have been fleshed out a little, honestly Netflix shows have a habit of just plunging head on in one direction without ever giving proper thought to what they wanna say in the first seasons of their shows, but usually by the second or third season they seem to work out the kinks so I’m kind of hoping the second season does a better job of explaining a little of what’s going on, like I don’t need answers right away but a little more of a nudge in the right direction of what’s happening would be great and maybe the answers to the lesser mysteries like why the phones work in town and where the power comes from

That's what baffles me. It's one thing if it were a smaller group but this is like 50 kids or so. Every single one just happened to have such a miniscule Hobbie that they could forget about it and survive? I don't mean to get dark here but they're still hormonal teenagers. If they're surviving and not actually doing anything to help make them happy while at it, why wouldn't they be suicidal? I'm with Harry in this boat. I'd be depressed as hell and would let them dock my food rations just because I wouldn't care about dying. The only reason I even made it through my teenage years was because of writing. If I couldn't do that for 9 months in this kind of miserable world, I'd definitely had done something awful to myself by that point. I highly doubt with that big of a group that there's not a single kid who's the same way.

Yes without a doubt. The show does a really good job at portraying what politics is and what it's always has been. Every character in the show represents different kinds of politicians. Harry represents those in it purely for themselves, Helena represents those with a good head on, but don't really have much power, but do have some influence on people and I think Campbell and Grizz are similar in where they represent a small miniority of people in politics. Those on the Campbell side of the spectrum seek to destruct and create chaos for their own satisfaction and then on the far far other side of the spectrum where Grizz lies is people who are intrinsically good and wholly altruistic. And Luke who is a good person and is aware of himself and his surroundings, but it's just a matter of when pushed to a corner and the pressure is on, of course he'd crack. There are so many other characters that fit into a political profile and it's so interesting to see how it is all represented.

I actually really didn’t like majority of the characters on the show. And I basically only watch shows for characters like i really don’t care about the plot. But I did really like Grizz, Sam and Kelly. So I liked grizz because he isn’t just some jock. He is actually really smart and empathetic. And honestly he was the only character who was 100% unproblematic. Sam was genuinely the only character who was consistently funny throughout the show. We also Stan how he stayed with Becca throughout her pregnancy. You can tell he genuinely cares about her. Kelly was always trying to do what was right. She ended things with will because she knew that he belonged with Allie. She also studied on how to help Becca give birth to her child and learned how to help people when they all got poisoned. Also as much as I disliked Campbell as a character, I will admit that the show definitely needed a “villain” character and he definitely fits the description. I just want him to have a redemption arch but I highly doubt that’s going to ever happen.

They choose a church because the majority of the characters would have attended that church in the town. It would have been out of place to use a different place of worship.

I feel like this show makes a lot of sense. You have to keep in mind while watching this that it is a show about teenagers lives but also a mystery. If they didn’t make the show a mystery then there would be no need for another season.

The most annoying thing for me is Sam tells to Allie that Campbell is a freaking psycho but Allie only leaves it with a react like "F's in the chat" and she just frees Campbell and let him kill people or torture Elle. And when Elle comes Allie and cries for help, Allie just goes like "Ohkay I didn't know that. I will protect you now." but you could have just used your brain and guessed it before ma'am. Cause he is a psycho!!
