"In My Darkest Hour" is definitely Megadeth's best power ballad! It also borrows Cliff Burton's triplet feel on "For Whom The Bell Tolls."

One overlooked song that could be a Megadeth power ballad is Forget to Remember from Super Collider. It's a very pop sounding song with its structure and vocal melodies.

And it’s about Dave’s mother-in-law, who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s.

I always thought of Tears In A Vial as the ballad for The System Has Failed. It doesnt have any clean guitar, but it's melodic and has great lyrics. Promises is the only Megadeth song to make me cry and I am so glad it got a mention here since for some reason i see it excluded from the best ballad talk when it is easily one of the best.
@AndriyVasylenko5 күн бұрын
Both albums are so underrated. We should talk about them more.
@AngeloTheGreat15 күн бұрын
@AndriyVasylenko I just had a thought, The System Has Failed was supposed to be a Dave solo album, but was switched to have the megadeth name. If dave Mustaine did release it solo, what makes it different from Megadeth? It sounds like megadeth to me, just with more personal lyrics I guess. Would probably be a good excuse to talk about songwriting credits in Megadeth songs.
@AndriyVasylenko5 күн бұрын
Gotta think about it. To me it sits fairly natural in the discography. I’d even say it the closest Mustaine came to his own Black album, it’s just happened not in the right decade. Scorpion, Kick the Chair… Awesome stuff. Anyway, the video will come as soon as I come up with a hook and cool title for it :)

@@AngeloTheGreat1 It has some chris poland's lead work in it, and lot of producer work. It definetly counts as a solo album but there's so much work has been done besides Dave's.

@@wowaka0 Chris Poland returning was fantastic, and I wish he at least reconvened to play 1 show live with the band back then, and this further muddies the waters of how this meant to be solo album is different from Megadeth.

Thanks! “Sick Dying… Dead” has the dots, but it’s not the function. And I find it confusing they didn’t go with dots on Rites and Friday. Plus, technically Dialectic Chaos and This Day We Fight are a double song, but separated, as well as Psychopathy and Killing Time from latest.

That little acoustic bit in the intro didn't make it to the original cut of the album. That's in the remastered early 2000s version. I got the album on cassette in the mid 1990s and that part isn't on the song. P.S. What about the classic Tears In A Vial?
@AndriyVasylenko3 күн бұрын

Dave is more of a power anthem kinda guy(some of the music has dynamics) Not so much as ballads. His other big money maker, knee jerk pick me up songs. Train of Con.. Peice Sell, Angry Again and many more. His voice doesn’t really do it for the most part on ballads. He did a duet with one of his songs, it was really good. So I think he’s the ability to write a ballad. Not to sing one exactly. Thx
@Hegder3 күн бұрын
Angry Again totally. Love that song.
