I started with final cut 7. When final cut X came out, i didn't switch to it, because, like Devin said, it was just for beginners. But now you can use final cut X as a professional too because it has developed to a real good editing software. You have to buy it for 300€ and then you own it and get all the updates for free. So for me it is much cheeper to use final cut X. More people use adobe premiere thats right, but I think the final cut X community is growing.
@WarfareHD18 жыл бұрын
The problem with Adobe premiere is that it's not very well optimized. You need to have a $2K plus PC with a really good graphics card just to run 4K smoothly. With Final Cut Pro X you get amazing optimization and with my MacBook I can edit 4K footage without lag unless I add a bunch of effects. Final Cut Pro X has evolved and I think the user friendly interface is a lot for intuitive to use then the mess of tiny icons that premiere has. There is also a bunch of Final Cut Pro X plugins that are super simple to install and use. And you also have to pay just once and you will get free updates for life

+AirsoftWarfareHD I totally agree. If the timeline would be 'normal' (as in premiere pro) it would be the best software for me!

I learned FCP7 a few years ago. I use Premiere Pro CC now and I absolutely love it! I honestly believe the best way to learn a software is to get some sample footage and click random buttons. Sounds silly but that's how I have taught myself all the editing softwares I know like Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, FCP etc... Also KZbin tutorials will be your best friend when learning new software. Loved the video Devin!

I've been using Premiere Pro for about 3 months and it's really easy to pick up. I love how easy it is to sync external audio. This feature alone is worth every penny, plus like you said you can mix footage resolutions and framerates and Premiere just gets on with it.

I'm editing with Premiere but I have read a lot of good things about the editor of davinci resolve, I'll try it, because it can be nice, most of all because it is free. If you are a profesional, they also have the "studio" version that gives you some more advantadges like noise reduction and more hardware profits, but the free version is really powerfull and most of all it is really good in color correction

I use both Sony Vegas and adobe premiere, the reason I think people like premiere more because it has a much more simple interface that is a lot easier to learn, it also does essentially the same things as Vegas, but I like Vegas more because that is what I learned how to edit on, there is no editing software that is the best, it's all preference. If you a beginner I suggest you try the free trials to see what you are comfortable with I have been doing freelance photography for 10 years and that's basically what I feel on editing software
@ThePhliphip8 жыл бұрын
+william bill I have used both and now I am only working with Adobe Premiere CC. They do essentially the same but Adobes usability allows a way faster editing process and Sony Vegas Preview needs a lot more resources.

I love Adobe. I use it every day for work. Primarily I am a graphic designer but I've taken more video classes than most of my college classmates. I primarily use photoshop, illustrator, and indesign. But I use after effects, premiere pro, and audition. The one thing I never really heard you say was how well they all work together. I love how you can be working in premiere and decide to take something to after effects and right click and go straight into it. Oh I want something from these layers of illustrator in after effects. Boom drop it in. They just do so well together I work with two other people who are defaulted to do video. One uses final cut and the other uses avid. The one using avid isn't a designer or videographer by any means but he is technical. He has started talking about using premiere pro lately and I have recommended that he does.

I respect everything you preach about editing software but I'm guessing Adobe Premier is way more than any of your subscribers need. I've been a half ass vlogger since iMovie HD in 2006 and the bottom line is shooting video and putting it up! Over the course of my career in media I've edited on Avid, FCP 2-7, FCP X, Premiere, and Premiere Pro. I have colleagues who have also used Vegas. Pinnacle and Moviemaker are more for simple, home use. For practical purposes Devin is right, PP is the best digital editing software for many filmmakers, even though I'm most familiar and experienced on Avid. I'm sure that Avid sti far exceeds PP when it comes to editing feature films and network TV shows. As difficult as learning Avid may be, it can be your ticket to higher editing jobs. That being said, I would still recommend PP. The per month cloud subscription price is reasonable and you're not locked into a long-term contract. Remember, editing software is just a tool to tell stories. Develop the editing skill regardless of platform or software!

Personally I think video editing software is really about personal preferences. I've used several softwares for editing. I've tried adobe premier several times, its just not for me... Fcpx feels natural, (haven't had any problems, importing my video files) and has a great flow, no lag, compared to adobe premier, which just always seems to lag when scrolling left to right. I know there are ways to create proxy files, but it simply felt like a steeper curve.

I love the multiple time lines on Sony.
Premiere is the BEST! I love how simple its layout is as well as being able to tinker with my audio right in the software. And if you have Audition, no worries on transferring the audio to that to edit. :)
@ZequiHouseRD8 жыл бұрын
I'm all the way agree, I started with Sony Vegas wich I still use for simple stuff, but the playback, effects, compatibility with photoshop, audition, and after effects makes adobe the one super software to go, premiere doesn't have a user friendly interface, but once you learn it is awesome

Haha, I started out with Pinnacle Studio too and I am still using it. No they did not go out of business and they are currently on version 22. I am currently using Pinnacle Studio 21 Ultimate Edition. It is definitely a good affordable starter editing software, however I have known for years that Adobe Premiere is one of the best out there, if not the best. I remember when FCP 7 was $1,000. We used it a lot in TV News, when I left news FCPX came out, my friends tell me that's when most pros bailed on FCP and went to Avid or Adobe. I told my wife I would own FPC7 one day - I never could afford it, now I edit everything on Adobe Premiere Pro CC! I love too, man how times have changed!! I remember Linear editing too - that's what I learned on (tape to tape). BTW Avid bought Pinnacle Studio, then sold it to Corel. It's still around. I do own FCPX too, it's easier for my kids to pick up than Adobe. It is still a very powerful software, it keys out a green screen really well. When my kids start editing with me professionally I'll move them to Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

I find that Adobe Premiere pro is no efficient and every time you want to play a clip it always has to render the red bar on the top, and until it's green it becomes playable. What are the main benefits toward Premiere and Final cut pro, because I think final cut is a lot faster in my opinion, however I really like lightroom and after effects. You should show us your color grading.
@CharlieCreated8 жыл бұрын
Avid can get pretty annoying, it's really powerful and in depth but there are a lot of bugs. It's often so powerful and uses so much computing power that if you get on a roll and keep editing for more than like 6 hours it has the tendency to crash. Rendering also has to be done manually for the most part for any effects you add. But if you really want to use the "industry standard" program known as Avid, I'd highly recommend taking a class on it.

There's other alternatives.... Premiere CC is now $240 a year if you get it legally. Final Cut Pro while not as shiny is $300 and is permanent. Also if you don't have any money at all why not try Lightworks? It's been used on handfuls of Hollywood Films and even has a free version who's only limitation is that it only exports 720p. So why not use that until you are actually making money from your videos and then spring for better software?
