This is so interesting. I dont know alot about Hip Hop and Rap so i learned ALOT in this video, but also i have known about Eminem since the Slim Shady LP. I never have bought his albums but my brother did. I didnt actually understand what it was about him that drew me to him but since watching your break downs i understand the songs and history behind them more and I also get the brilliance of his lyricism now. So maybe that was why and i just didnt know it.

I think the line is actually “cuz you gon’ get STUCK, STOLE, n SNUCK”…all three are synonymous with gettin punched in the face. Stole is just a grimy word we use to use back in the 90’s/2000’s for cracking someone in the face unexpectedly…I miss that word

I wish I was older when Em dropped these albums, I would’ve appreciated them a lot more. Then again, I was 8 or 9 when his first album dropped I didn’t know what rap was! My older sister, I remember her saying “Did you know Eminem is white?!” I had no idea what she was talking about, so I remember replying “really that’s awesome” yeah I look back now and laugh.

I discovered Em back in 07 when I was 10 yrs old, got more into his discography when I was around 12-13, in my early teens. That was when I first heard this track and the entirety of SSEP. Retrospectively, this was THE BEST age to discover Slim Shady. Most of us discover drugs, alcohol, sex and other “forbidden adult stuff” at that exact time. Now, with that in mind, imagine being a typical teenager, this naturally edgy, aggressive, irritable kid who doesn’t give a shit about shit and annoys society on purpose to get a rise out of it, and then hearing a guy who acts exactly like this and you resonate with every single aggro bar he drops, but this guy is a fully grown adult, free to do whatever the f he likes and at the peak of his strength. You look at that and you think to yourself “yep, this is fkin awesome, that’s how I wanna be”, i.e. you still being who you are but also grown up, strong and cool asf

Missed the shoutout to Rakim in the last verse. “Don’t take me for a joke, I’m no comedian” Rakim opened the song with that to preface the multisyllabic rhyme pattern was not meant as a joke. Before rakim multis was only used in a comedic sense all the way back to Chaucer and Shakespeare, but rakim made sure to tell us he is not joking. That is one of the things rakim changed about how rhyming was done in hip hop.
