Any lover of video game creepypasta should give this a read Gonzalo is a good Protagonist in el pendrive. Unlike most creepypasta Protagonist he actually has common sense. Like the rings being red boxes would be an actul bug someone could see. And also gonzalo was smart to duck for cover becuase that jumpscare at the end of the countdown is most likely the reason his buddy had a seizure. And he does what other creepypasta protags dont do. He distories the source first opportunity. This story in a way reminds me of nes godzilla (a story widely regarded as the best videogame creepypasta of all time)

Yeah, the story gives a clear implication that the only reason he survived was because he managed to pull himself away and not look at the screen. I always interpreted the game's origins in the story to be a rom hack made to target people with epilepsy. It starts out normal, but then suddenly emits bright flashing lights. The countdown is especially chilling because it could be whoever made the game's way of seeing if their victim was still able to move, with any player unable to move being unable to get away from the screen before it started flashing again. edit: lmao toadbup actually said this in the video

Tbh if I saw a bloody sonic on a game I was playing I'd just think it was either 1. Some anti pirating measure and the copy I have is pirated for some reason OR 2. As someone who has watched videos learning about the culture of the old(er) internet, I think this creepypasta and its remake are my favorite gaming creepypastas, at least on a conceptual level. I think the idea of the unnamed antagonist of the story just being a regular person who decided to make a rom hack that could literally kill people as some short of “shock game” is much more realistic and horrifying than the “haunted game” trope. Knowing how people are, I could genuinely see this happening and that alone makes it more scary.

I should probably mention this but vibing leaf is an amazing horror creator that's known to give really amazing twists to creepy pastas in a really realistic way. For example most of his creepypasta recreations with videogames have to do with situations that can genuinely happen to anybody. Like the ramson ware angry birds video, the spyware candy crush, the sonic/roblox recreations that are basically developers/users being malicious and creating viruses and trojan's inside said games to get to the protagonist. Some are haunted horror games like the dead plants video though it's more heartbreaking than horror. Cartoon creepy pastas all have either someone modified the episode because they pirated it(another realistic thing that can happen), someone at the official company did messed up with the cartoon tape(they're immediately fired) or there was broadcast interruption by malicious individuals, either way most of Vibingleaf's recreations are nearly something that can happen to someone.

What really sells this creepypasta for me is how VibingLeaf managed to take a question that the story left vauge on purpose, and answer it in a way that reframes the entire story. In the original text, the countdown was left vague on purpose to fill the reader with dread and keep them thinking. The game however, actually shows us what happens with the countdown, which is the extra flashing presumably made to finish the job. Usually you don't want to answer questions like this as it ruins the fear of the unknown, so being able to give an answer AND make it just as scary as the original deserves some high fucking praise!

Have u checked out the old creepypasta about the unused "Genocide City" level in one of the old sonic games, how it reveals a part of the story where robotnik actually kills tails and the author goes crazy and isnt able to see tails in *any* game? That one is a huge mindfuck

pretty sure i know what happened, the flashing lights section that apparently paralyzed gonzalo had probably triggered some semi-seizure, and thats why gonzalo could regain control, because it ended. thats also probably why his friend died to a seizure
