I haven't even seen the movie, but from what I've seen so far and from Word-of-mouth, I'm really excited for this movie. I've seen clips and it's making me very excited. I'll give my score once I've seen the film for myself, but I'm saying this right now. I trust the Sonic Show a lot more than this, and it's not because I hate this, I'm just saying that I like hearing from people I can relate to. 🙄

I have to disagree. I loved the movie, I came out of the cinema practically bouncing up and down. Ive even booked tickets to see it a second time. Yes it had flaws, not everything played out how I would have liked but I felt they did a really good job, especially for a video game movie and I'm super excited for a third movie. This franchise means so much to me and I definitely felt they respected the source material and handled the characters wonderfully.

Honestly As a movie I think it’s fantastic it does what a sequel should always do. In paralleling lots of central themes and things from the first film and challenges that sonic tackled is now teaching tails to tackle. Can’t agree at all with tails. Tails has multiple scenes with sonic where they are able to be buds and sonic is quick to call him buddy cause sonic knows how tails feels. He knows about being lonely and isolated. So he wanted to make sure he assured tails he wasn’t alone. Downplaying that moment I think Was not doing it justice at all. Tails loves sonic because sonic has everything he doesn’t. He’s not a fanboy for the sake of being a fanboy. He loves sonic cause he’s everything he aspires to be. And by the end of the film tails finally reaches his own confidence. And that’s just one of the things I think shines in the film. I think the movie is a great sonic movie AND a great movie for the many parallels and character growth. Sonic especially goes from a wreckless kid who has no control over his powers. To a bit matured at the end. He realizes the responsibility of his powers and the dangers of being to wreckless. Idk it feels like this review kinda skips past a lot of very amazing key moments bro.

Despite how Sonic said at the end that he wants to stay a kid, I think he has very much grown up at that point because of all he's gone through. So just because he says he's the same Sonic doesn't mean he actually is!

Perhaps expectations were just too high? I’ve since seen it twice and enjoyed it FAR more the second time once I dropped my admittedly gigantic expectations. It’s a very fun movie but yes the plot is pretty damn flawed. Knuckles was indeed the best part of the movie. It’s a shame he overshadowed tails A LOT. At the end of the day it’s a kids movie with lots of stuff to appeal to them. But that aside, shift all the focus to everything that is “sonic”, it’s a damn good time

As a Sonic fan, I fully respect your opinion about what your saying about this film but I disagree that it's mediocre for a video-game movie like this (so sorry to disappoint) It's much better than the first film, very action packed, really showed the personality of Sonic way more like the games were then and his relationship between Tails is just pure happiness and emotional as his worthy sidekick. The biggest part which is a *massive spoiler* of the film was very amazingly great for those who have seen it in theaters. It's a 9.5/10 for anyone who is a Sonic fan from the games as there were lot of easter eggs and references I like from this film. I was not expecting the post credits scene to be not what I expected but it was so good and got me excited for the third movie.

Asking "why Tails didn't come help Sonic in the first movie" kinda shows you are missing some details. Tails said that he didn't gained courage or inspiration to do help people until he saw Sonic beat Robotnik, which was at the end of the movie. So the time Tails gain some courage to help out a little the situation between Sonic and Eggman was already settled in the first movie

Look, ill be honest. i wasnt expecting a masterpeice. i dont think anyone can expect a movie to be pure gold. but thats ok. a movie doesnt need to be pure gold to be spectacular. so many of us go into a movie and get so hyped that we expect a genius work of art, but when we find out that its not as glimmering as we imagined, we tend to see the cracks more closely. every movie is imperfect, and we shouldnt go into cinimas expecting to have our lives changed and worldviews shattered. movies are movies and we should just go along for the ride, rather then pick them apart. dont let other peoples veiwpoint affect your own, because we all have our own preferences. that being said; sonic movie 2 has flaws, sure, but its not Mediocre. not in the slightest. there are plenty of fun and exciting moments throughout. the choreography is awsome, the cgi has a amazing feel to it and over all its just an enjoyable adventure movie. sure they could have delved into the history of the echidnas and owls a bit more, but they still showcase enough lore and history of sonics world to allow us to speculate and be invested. and of course the characters themselves were fun to watch too. and i love seeing sonic mature and become a better hero over the course of this film series. so in short, sonic 2 was really good! easily the best video game movie so far. cant wait to see whats next

In my opinion the humans (specifically the wedding scene) break the pacing of this movie stopping characters like Tails from being fleshed out, (who is actually important unlike the humans) the story to be better explained, the lore surrounding the emeralds seemed pretty barebones and has some problems that may come to fruition in the future if not fleshed out better, Sonic who is the protagonist has went through almost no character development despite that the movie at the start and even from the trailers seemed to be trying to emphasise something like that happening, coincidentally, the movies also falsely market this film as being mostly action as if that’s what this film has to offer, meaning it shouldn’t come as surprise at all when fans like SpeedSuperSonic finds out that one scene of Rachel from the trailer actually takes up at least 20 minutes of the film when the trailers barely suggest something like this happening and is disappointed as a result of that, in fact that’s something to criticise or we will see more of this sort of bad marketing and pacing take place in the future. The action scenes and CGI are absolutely beautiful and stunning (although it’s extremely disappointing that this movie ends up taking place basically entirely in Earth aside from a small introductory scene at the start just like the first film when the Sonic franchise has so many distinct and eye catching locations t use instead) however if visuals are what make a movie great like this comment implies than so many of Sony’s attempts at Marvel movies like Venom should be paraded as masterpieces instead of the unfaithful and badly executed films they are. And keep in mind Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has cemented itself as having one of the best CGI fights I’ve seen in film so this is coming from a guy who absolutely loved the visuals. That being said I do firmly believe that this movie as a movie is mediocre, as a Sonic movie it’s quite good as it has a fair amount to offer even with the many missed opportunities that arise but as a movie itself, it’s mid. I would even go to say that as a stand-alone film and not a Sonic movie, the first one is better structured and executed despite only having two characters that people actually entered to see, in this movie, there are lots of characters that people entered the cinemas to see and instead of seeing an abundance of those characters working in tangent with the irrelevant ones like Tom who are movie originals, which the first one somehow succeeded in doing, this movie only lets those characters be a huge bother and really let’s us know that despite taking up so much of the movie, side characters like Rachel should stay side characters, or better yet, slowly be ushered out of the movie canon in a natural way. 6/10 movie, 8/10 Sonic movie. But even if it’s a decent Sonic movie, references and familiar visuals being brought to the big screen alone aren’t enough to create a great movie, SpeedSuperSonic seems to understand this

​@@Mo-. that is true. i will admit that there are alot of moments in this second one that do hamper the action and other key plot moments. (especially the wedding scene, which kind of dragged on for a little too long). and i do agree that references and fan service alone does not make a good video game film (*cough cough*, World of Warcraft *cough cough). the best way to make a succsessful VG movie is to utalize what makes the source material so entertaining and enjoyable, while at the same time making a story that can be understood by most mainstream audiences, and have engaging and quality writing. I mean marvel managed to strike that balence between comic books and movies with the mcu. (even if they have recently started to faulter), and studios will need to find a similar method with video game movies as well. but even if sonic 2 has some pacing hickups, the fact that it adapts the sonic ip and lore elements in a genuine and believable way, is a pretty big step in the right direction. going forward, studios should take a page from sonic, and take the time to develop new and unique stories about these games, while also developing their characters in a ways thats both endeering and familiar. besides, since a knuckles series and sonic 3 have already been announced, im hopeing that we can get a much deeper look into the echidnas and other bits of lore the sequel didnt deliver on. and btw, i know an argument could be made that detective pikachu already strikes that balence between fans and general audience, but in the case of that film, pokemon as a brand is huge. i mean REALLY HUGE. There are barely any people who dont know or at least havent heard or seen pikachu before. because of that worldwide familiarity, pokemon had an advatage of trancending the medium of videogames into other parts of culture that few game ips could.

Despite thinking the first film is a better structured movie alone, I think this sequel does a better job at balancing video game and movie elements than the first so in that regards to that I do think Sonic 2 is the best video game movie out there, but only since it’s not too high a bar to beat (unless you include Detective Pikachu, which I don’t consider a video game movie since it’s apparently taking place in the Pokemon anime canon rather than the games).

@@Mo-. well i mean, techically its still kinda a vg movie since the o.g detective pikachu was a game released on the 3ds (even though it wasn't very good), and pokemon as a franchise was first started with the games back on the game boy before the anime was released(which, itself is a spin on the core concept with new characters and storylines). so i guess DT.P is a film adaptation of a tv adaptation of a game series? i know its kinda confusing. but, i see what your getting at.

From how you're wording this, you didn't listen to a lot of what was stated. Tails only knew about Sonic after he unleashed his EMP and learned more about him from that, the story takes place 200-something days after the first movie. Tails was trying to find the energy signature during that time. Did you read the Prequill comic at all?

The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, all of the Toy Story movies, Spider-Man 2, The Empire Strikes Back, etc. True with the critics gonna hate. I personally don't care for what the critics say. I quite liked Tails, I found him a good blend between Boom Tails and the games. He had the tech stuff that they focused on with Boom Tails, but also a younger brother/starstruck fan dynamic with Sonic. He was treated better than he has been in the games for the past decade, though that's not particularly hard.

I just done watching sonic 2 for second time. And I hope you should too, so you could see Tails Importance is more than you think. Yes his Back story is not longer or without flashback like Knuckles. But its enough to show his character progression in first arc. event when he knock down, his invention save not only him but Sonic & Tom as well. Tails so Smart than he could operate any Vehicles in no time. And I laugh when I realize where he got his tornado from. What I'm trying to say, when he got time out, You could feel his presence still there & when 3rd arc happen, Tails share equal scene with Knuckles.

I would give it a 10/10 The movie was superb and I loved it so much it had great dialogue , hilarious comedy and brilliant references for Sonic fans. I can understand that people have their own personal opinions as to what satisfies them but honestly when people say there wasn't enough Tails or this and that I kinda disagree with that because he was shown a decent and formidable amount as well as having a heartwarming friendship with Sonic and the pacing of the movie was just fine it was steady and needed 2 hours. Also Knuckles was just superb I loved his character in the film from start to finish I really do wonder where they will go with movie 3 but for now I hope they make Knuckles series just as good and give Knuckles even more character development as well whilst also bringing in new characters such as the Chaotix and his Bat rival to allow their own character development and origin too.

I disagree about tails. He and sonic weren’t friends pre bar scenes. Tails liked sonic but sonic didn’t like tails. Sonic had to decide be friends with tails. And after giving tails some confidence they became friends. You don’t need a full movie to become free you just need a moment that’s how I’ve made most of my friends so it seemed realistic to me.

Ok my turn. I thought the movie was good, great, awesome, outstanding, AMAZING!!! Although at the beginning I was a little afraid of the pacing when sonic and tails arrived at Siberia a little earlier than I thought they were but it turned out they knew what they where do with it. I loved the dynamic between sonic and tails, I don't really agree with you on the problems you had with tails because even though they bonded quickly, it was very well done imo. Knuckles was awesome as expected, glad they kinda made his interpretation like the one he had in X, very well done as well. The wedding segment was Interesting to me, I liked it. The emerald temple segment was phenomenal, best part of the movie. And finally Jim as Eggman was just as I expected he'd be so yeah. I fully respect your opinion, but to me personally it’s now my favorite movie😂 but at few parts of the movie you kinda needed to be a fan of the blue blur because of the writing, but growing up with these characters it really hit me about how much this franchise means to me, I found myself laughing and crying and smiling the whole time and yea tails did kinda come in a weird time and was just THERE he actually ended up being my favorite in the movie and knuckles! I loved seeing him grumpy and angry but also had his humor, this movie really brought knuckles out of the dark because he has basically become a joke to the franchise, and I never really liked Ben as sonic personally but I feel like he really connected with sonic in this movie, they brought his humor into the movie like with how I grew up with him, overall this is a fantastic movie in my opinion, 10/10 for me!

The first film was not the best, but it has two titles that it has honestly earned. When the first trailer was released, there was an outcry over what Sonic looked like. But instead of moving on, Jeff Fowler decided to remake the film, even though it would increase the cost and postpone the film premiere. Not many directors would have done that. And despite the fact that it could only be shown for a month before Covid closed all cinemas, it made a good profit that has motivated to move on with the film universe and given an old game character a new life.

I agree that Tails should have had more development but I only agree with that based on backstory. In terms of his relationship with sonic I think it worked well. Tails said he was only there to warn sonic, not to stick around. It was Sonic who made the relationship work and tails followed along until after the bar scene where he realized sonic likes him and he finally has a friend. Only thing I think they should have done differently was made the bar scene a better “bonding” scene rather then a dance party thing.

I personally loved this movie and I cannot wait for the third, because it’ll probably be even better! Imo this is much better than the first since this to me feels like the REAL Sonic movie. The first was still good but nothing too outstanding to me personally, even though I’m a Sonic fan. The first one was good but I thought that the second was a near masterpiece. The only thing I didn’t really like that much is the wedding scene but that’s all really, otherwise the movie was perfect. I think Tails in the film was fine. He has this whole fanboyism when meeting Sonic which is likely what a little kid would feel in meeting some they look up to. Yet while at the same time he was scared even wanted to back out of any sort of combat scenario (Almost like forces, but unlike forces it is atleast Movie Tails' first adventure so it's definately excusable) yet Sonic manages to support him and he still managed to prove his usefulness in dangerous situations. And contrary to the review's claim Sonic *did* develop after the introduction with Tails and he began to learn his actions has an effect on those around him after constantly putting Tails' life in danger numerous times pleading for others to see about him first eventually he had come to the conclusion, so much he even says it him self, that Tails was brave enough to travel the universe just to meet him that it motivated him to take a risk at finding Eggman alone just to keep the others safe, even attempting to over come his own fears with Water.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying the first movie was better but I agree with the points you made. This movie follows the simple stories of the classics and SA1 and suffers because of it. In the third movie I’m hoping for story in which the villain has already won, similar to the stories of sonic unleashed and sonic generations (NOT sonic forces) but with plot elements from SA2. I think being unable to protect others from shadow and eggman would be great for Sonic’s character to mature and it would also be a chance for tails’ to go head to head against eggman (maybe using his spinning tails as an attack) and show his character development. Plus if shadow and eggman succeed in destroying the world, they could transition the movies to being full cgi in Sonic’s world lol

The only part of the movie where critics are right is they could have handled the humans alot better. Obviously removing them completely is impossible but the subplot of the wedding really took me out of the immersion and also the bar scene was redundant and felt out of place too. You got it right on pacing. I still really enjoyed this movie, but at 2 hours long it still felt rushed. I think it also comes down to this story basically taking place over a weekend. I loved what they did with Knuckles, but I wanted to see more Tails and I felt like there needed to be some kind of conflict between Sonic and Tails that got resolved before the end. To be honest my fantasy of the movie ending with Sonic falling from the sky and being caught by Tails in the Tornado also colors my point of view that ending could have been way cooler somehow, maybe they’re saving that classic Genesis scene for Sonic 3? I actually disagree about the cabin scene. It was one of my favorite Sonic/Tails moments, but we needed more of them. It was way funnier of a movie than I expected it to be. As a consequence Robotnik seemed more funny than scary. I’ll have to give it another watch soon.

tbh tails was never really properly introduced. there was no dialogue in sonic 2. his sole purpose in that game was for sonic to have a player 2, a sidekick. all he did was follow sonic and help. but over the years, (excluding 2010s era) his bond with sonic has grown and he'd become a significant character in the franchise. the new generation of kids that the movie has as its target audience will have tails in this movie impact them just like it did for the kids in the 90s who grew up with sonic. sonic's arc isn't complete and I'm sure he'll continue to mature in the future of this cinematic universe. i also believe they'll explore sonic & tails' friendship more as well. i respect your opinion though, these were just my thoughts

Man, this sucks to see :( I personally loved this movie! I can’t wait to watch it again! But I do agree with a lot of what you said, specifically the wedding stuff. It’s cool to see cuz I live in Oahu, so it’s like “eyyyy I’ve been there” but there’s easily a good 20 mins in this that could’ve been cut out or given to literally anything else to do with the story. theirs so many sonic youtubers who are so salty about this movie and i dont get it. its exactly what sonic fans have wanted. less of the humans, sonic being sonic and he is, in the end he is still a kid, the idea of him maturing isnt ever gonna happen because he has never matured, he has always been the same teenage kid in all the games and they regonise that by making Tom his dad, no longer a friend just his dad, giving him parents because he is a kid. but at the same time, their is growth when tails becomes hurt and he realises he isnt ready yet to become that hero he thought he was in the beginning, so theirs growth their. tails is spot on to his character, theirs a lot of love their with him admitting its ok to be weird, a great scene and a great message. and thats all i need out of him, he followed and watched sonic, thats 100 percent accurate to tails story. so in terms of him being the weakest im not sure what you mean there because in the end he is just the sidekick and they got him down right. knuckles was amazing, sure they changed it up just a little but made him perfect in their own way. they did everything right. they gave us the characters, they gave us fun and action, they even have them team up and super sonic looking oh so cool. and their is a prequill comic that may explain how tails knew of knuckles, but is it really that far fetch that tails knew of knuckles? also also everyone complaining about pacing...what does that even mean???? theirs plenty of times you get breaks and such from the action but then plenty of action too...do you not want that or something? what is that complaint?? i dont understand people complaining about pacing...the movie starts it slows down it gets actiony then slows down then gets action again...good, why complain about that? and end of rant. go watch my review where i talk about how great it is x3
