I took Mephiles’ characterization as him starting just as condescending as before, but then he realizes Iblis didn’t come back. Neither did Solaris. Mephiles is a half of a greater being, the weaker half at that, so without them all he can do now is get his revenge and wreak havoc. Yet Shadow has grown stronger and doesn’t even remember him AGAIN, and this eats at Mephiles. He can’t become whole, and he can’t even revel in reuniting with his arch foe because the guy literally curb-stomps him without a hint of remembrance. So at this point, Mephiles panics. He yells that he wants to exist because he knows it’s all he has left. He can’t become a god. He can’t even destroy Shadow. He can only exist in this spatial anomaly, a blessing which Shadow doesn’t even let him savor.

Imo, when Mephiles said "I want to exist." I didn't think he meant getting sealed again. Mephiles is half part an incomplete god that rules over time. He's aware that after the events of Sonic 06 he was erased from existence (As Elise blew out the flame), erasing that timeline. I believe that he planned to use the time anomaly to restore himself to the timeline, and bring himself back into existence

Nah man you got Mephiles wrong. He's Not being retroactively re-characterized. "I want... to exist!" comes out because he KNOWS he was erased from the timeline at the end of Sonic 06. He literally wants to exist again. He's seemingly the only time-displaced boss that is self-aware of the situation, and knows that this is absolutely his only chance to be anything ever again. In short, Mephiles is going through the wringer here, and is extremely desperate.

Tbh I feel like Black Doom is an underatted Sonic villians he was the only Modern Sonic villain you can take seriously compared to Infinite or Zavok and his design is cool. If they every had a Silver cross in game of the Sonic remakes than they could have Infinite as a boss since Silver lost to Infinite in the cutscene so Silver could get his getback.

Something I saw someone point out, is that Radical Highway Act 1 is rather unnerving. Not only from the music, but also environmentally. It starts off very normal and faithful to the original stage. But as you progress, things slowly look more askew. Going from normal, to subtle, to the Inception level insanity we saw previously as we draw closer to Black Doom. And it isn't announced by an in-game cutscene or anything. It's just for you to notice, and I love that.

Honestly there is so much going on in this 4 hour long game. It's truly *dense* . And every single level is a hit with no blunders. That's unheard of for Sonic. Even fan darlings like SA2 and Unleashed have many flawed levels. All Hail Shadow indeed.

Although I like that shadow gets a new form (Doom Wing) I am hoping someone in a super Shadow skin. I don’t know if it’s possible to code the game to turn shadow golden when he enters his doom wing form, but I imagine someone could just swap out Shadow or Terios’ model for Super Shadow and then you could just simulate being super shadow during the final boss by use of that Heck, if someone is super dedicated, maybe they could retexture the doom abilities to match a super form? Like a golden doom morph.

I got so much to say, so ill break it down to three points! 1) im so shocked that apart from black arm soldiers, black doom, and devil doom every other black arm alien is a brand new design! Black arms ninja, a black arm oak + Assassian, THE WIND BLACK ARM DEMON, plus neo devil doom omg! 2) Radical highway is hard asf man, its why i said the game peaked at chaos. I WAS STRUGGLING, THE COLLECTIABLES ARE HIDDEN SO WELL. its so rewarding to actually play radical highway again tho 3) minor thing, but i love how mocap is back! Like when shadow say “ill grab the chaos emerald from rouge” in the final cutscene you can see its a mocap running. Gerald also has some mocap its great man

It’s interesting to think that if Maria and The Professor weren’t here in white space would Shadow have given in? it seemed as if black doom was pushing Shadow to given to his rage and fully succumb to his nature. A full on “strike me down with all your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete” kind of situation where when shadow gives in to his Black Arms nature Black Doom could take control. (This also retroactively Gibbs further reason to why Black Doom would feed into shadows hatred of humanity in Shadow 05. Whether through manipulation or mind control, black doom always planned to control Shadow.) So, would Shadow have given in without that push from Gerald & Maria? Would he have been stubborn enough to stand his ground? Or was it only because because Maria reminded Shadow of who he is deep down that he could resist that destructive anger?

I have the exact same thought. I think part of why the Black Arms tried to attack Maria in the middle of the game is because Black Doom knew she is a hindrance to his plans. It's so cool that they kept Black Doom's manipulative side. After all he is inspired by the devil. And his plan truly could have come to fruition if it hadnt been for a truly pure soul getting in his way.

It’s tragic that Gerald implies that he, being a smart man, can figure out what terrible fate awaits him, and Maria at shadow clearly wants to warn them up. He doesn’t know any of the details, but he has a feeling that for shadow to be this emotional about seeing them. Some grizzly must be awaiting them in the near future. But ultimately, even if shadow told them what’s going to happen or Gerald did do it on his own, in the main story of sonic generations they retconned in a line that states time will correct itself. Meaning that time displaced individuals (like Maria, Classic Sonic, Metal Overlord, etc) won’t remember the events of sonic generations. So Gerald can’t prepare for the future. as soon as he fades away, he’ll forget all about this adventure and will have to deal with what happens next as he already did in the future Essentially, his fate is already sealed

I might be the only one, but frankly, I was disappointed radical highway was the last stage. The black comet (/final haunt/the last way) would have been a perfect final level, making use of all shadow's different powers wonderfully. I would have been fine with it if Space Colony Ark was based upon Shadow'05, but it wasnt either, it's very clearly based upon SA2, with none of the features like Cosmic Fall, Space Gadget, The Doom or Lost Impact... Despite that tho, I'd still say this game is a solid 10/10. Crazy how things have turned around from the meta era.

Quick mephiles theory I think the mephiles we saw was a version of him from the future and he’s gonna break out of that seal and gonna go and get revenge on shadow. He is in dusty desert because maybe the ancients from frontiers saw shadow running through chaos island and thought “hey maybe if we get a hedgehog like that we can take down the end” but mephiles would just wanna feel free but he couldn’t he was forced to stay in his seal until he was ready. Unfortunately the ancients couldn’t free him in time if you know what I mean. But hey that’s my theory I’ve never played 06 I just think this could be his new backstory

He's.... nowhere in reality. Basically 06 ending made it so Solaris, and in extension, Mephiles, no longer exist in the first place. He basically just existed as timeline anomaly at this point.... which isn't all that weird considering Sonic had Crisis City, which would also have been retconned by 06 ending too. The thing about Mephiles is that he's part of some sort of time deity (and he himself can time travel), which might explain why he's fully aware of his nonexisting predicament

I kinda hated this story. It's jus incredibly vapid & they don't really explore wut a shadow that's moved on & changed havin an alive maria & gerald in front of him to interact wit would TRULY be like. He meets them, Gerald exposits info we alr know, we reach the end of the game, shadow reaches is resolution the game ends that's it. They don't do anythin new or interestin especially wit maria. The main story doesn't actively explore shadow's growth or wut it all means here wit a gerald that did all the things he did. Shadow doesn't show how much he moved on from the things Gerald did, he never is faced wit a choice he has to make entirely on his own. There could've been conflict wit wut maria wants & wut shadow wants. Shadow could teach maria the things he's learned so she could let go too & it connects back to when she says goodbye to shadow in sa2. Shadow could learn that beatin BD means he loses maria & gerald to time again & he makes the decision to choose puttin things back to the way they were on their own makin the last scene hit harder cus HE did that. It wasn't circumstance or somethin he couldn't predict, shadow sealed their fates for good willingly cus it felt right to him to do so. We could add new dimensions to maria too, learn more bout her than jus "nice girl". There's so much they could've done & it all jus gets turned into a nothin rehash of his prior arcs. It's a load of nothin wit no real MEANIN behind it. It sucks so bad. It also jus makes me hate maria as a character too. She's genuinely jus a doll here. Jus there to repeat lines she's said before & take away shadow's agency. Before it was fine cus she was a memory we didn't even know how real it truly was. It could've been totally fabricated by either shadow's mind or the tamperin gerald did to him. regardless she was jus there as a foundation point for shadow's arc in his games so it didn't matter much. She was uncle ben & that was fine. But this is like bringin uncle ben back to life only to not go over wut peter has been through as spider-man since bein inspired by Ben's words/death & how their dynamic would currently operate since things have been so diff up to that point. It's a complete waste & fumble & handlin it like the way they did neuter's both her & shadow so much. I have other problems but bottom line it's jus not good.
