Just bought the box set. The Sopranos is a show to be watched at least once a year and watching it on high quality blu ray DVD with all the extra features is just fantastic. Best show ever!! RIP James Gandolfini, and thanks for bringing Tony Soprano and his two families to our family room for 6 seasons...I just wish I had some more of your work to look forward to...so sad.

Charles Carter Yup. It was good. Much better than Breaking Bad, that's for sure! However, I don't really see how it was as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, it was groundbreaking in bringing nudity and cussing to mainstream television. Other than that though, I don't see where it is such a huge deal. I did find that there were many little story threads created that just sort of vanished and were never discussed again. That was a bit weird. Overall though, I did thoroughly enjoy the series!

You need to watch the whole series at least three times before you discover all the nuance, all the tiny callbacks and mythology and legacy and symbolism and metaphor woven into the dialogue and storylines. It's impossible to fully appreciate with only one viewing.

You have to understand this show started in 1999, before that you had mostly sitcoms and cop shows that's about it.. So imagine going from Law & Order, Friends, X Files, ER etc... to this. Nothing came even close in terms of storytelling and depth. Anything close in quality came out at least 2-3 years after the Sopranos started. And from memory they were all HBO shows too : The Wire, Band of Brothers, Rome, Six Feet Under etc..
