I always think it’s great to hear the stories from the old days to pass on down to the next generation as I’ve done with my children. grandfather was my hero, a larger-than-life personality, and a great storyteller. I truly believe there are so many lessons learned from the past with families with the way things turned out for certain people. It’s important that we teach the lessons and pass it on. I know times are changing, but I still think the old school values are the best. And sometimes remember when can be the best solution.
@CollectorsCorner777 Жыл бұрын
"Remember when is the lowest form of conversation." I swear, that's the only line I regularly remember from the show. My family does a lot of remember when, and that line hit me hard(I didn't watch the full show until a few years ago). Great video as always.

Remember Tony's words as the series opens, they were powerful to me. "I get the feeling that I'm coming in at the end, that the best days are behind us." It was something to that effect. When you're right you're right.

Two tours in Iraq and Two tours in Afghanistan …I never really told “war stories,” but I told a lot of anecdotal stories about things I have seen and places I have been. I did this for YEARS! But I eventually found a place in my heart which asked the question: ‘When are you going to love your future as much as you love your past. Because even though I told old military stories with humor …like the antics me and my fellow Soldiers would get into, there was an underlying theme of sadness behind it. I adopted the “remember when” idea because I cane to feel like I have been everywhere and done everything. So before the age of 40 my legacy was sealed. It was a powerful a d difficult realization to ask myself: “Are you really ready to be put out to pasture?” After 40 and all of my injuries and so on, I was no longer fit for duty. I’m only 44 now so this is fresh in my mind. But I came to realize that there was a way to keep fighting. And that is by helping others. We all have our legacy. We all have our remember when. And we all have a need to hang onto it. But we also have a need to let go of it.

Thank you for making a video about this scene Michael. I graduated from university over 7 years ago, yet when I meet with some of my friends, it’s always a countdown to when a couple of them start bringing up every memory from the first year of university for the 78th time. It always annoyed me, not because I have created many great stories since then, but revisiting those stories felt like an acceptance that good times are past us. When I watched this scene, it really hit me. While Tony had become rather despicable by this point in the series, this line was very eloquently written. “Lowest form of conversation” no words were minced!

Today's episode really resonated with me. I had guilt for years of things I've done in the past and couldn't move on, and I was miserable. I had a close relationship with a woman starting around 2014. I met her ( Lupe) when she was diagnosed with stage IV breadth cancer. I opened up to her ( the things I've done were detrimental to me, not others), and she basically reminded me that it was in the past and what a good guy I am and have a lot to offer. Even though Lupe knew her days were numbered, she lived life to the fullest and in the present. I was with her almost every day up until the day she passed away. Just 1 quick story of something that stayed with me about her attitude. She was having a party at her house in 2012. When I showed up and we were talking, I asked her, " Where is Henry and Mark? She responded I don't know I'm focused on the people that are here and showed up to her party." Even though I left a little early with a friend of mine to go to River North that night, I knew right then, and there, this is someone I wanted to be around and get close to because I loved her attitude. She helped me become a better person and learned to forgive myself. We all have work to do on ourselves, but with her help and God, I'm a happy man. Thank you, Lupe, for showing me the light . R.I.P.

Even at 23 years old I really resonate with your final message, Michael. I sometimes feel like I dwell and remember too much the good times, but I appreciate the fact that I’m still able to create moments now but I do find myself feeling nostalgic at times if I see something that reminds me of the past or if I see a certain video that talks about something from the past. But I totally agree that living in the present is the way to go. From my own personal experience, I do agree that remember when is a low form of conversation.. it’s okay to sometimes reminisce on those good times, but not always. There’s so much more good to create. It’s just about detaching yourself from what was , simply.
