While albeton users are paying for updates to make "music", FL Studio users are breaking the limits of human capability with Soulja Boy speedruns
@brnktv2 жыл бұрын
As a user of both, they both have their merits. FL Studio is still the king when it comes to the piano roll. Shift+Right-Click to preview notes? Slicing notes where ever you want, strumming them, flipping, etc. I mean, that's just god tier. BUT, The Push 2 paired with Ableton makes whatever that FL controller is look like a childs toy. Image-line just needs to make a much better hardware controller for it, and improve on some of the janky UI. The plugin database/management is still awful. But then right-click to pan? Ugh, I love it. Ableton's non-trackpad pan is ctrl+alt (on Windows), which is so f'in weird. The only reason I even bought Ableton was all the producers I worked with used it, and I was tired of having to import wavs and midi instead of just being able to open a project file. Then over time, I just got more used to it, but I've been an FL Studio user since 3.4.0 (I remember it was December, because FL felt like a Christmas present I got for myself). I remember buying it back then because they added that Formula controller, and that was amazing to me. Image-Line really is a great company, though. Ableton's team is... meh.

strangely enough the entire time I've used FL studio (since version 8) my default tempo has been 140. I also 100% believe Soulja Boy has his song at 140 because of that reason.

yeah that sounds like 140 was like a legacy default tempo in older versions of fl which is interesting

The "i + f + enter" can also be done quicker if the setting (forgot where it is) that makes it just open the FL keys when you hit f instead of it being highlighted.
@brnktv2 жыл бұрын
Faster way to add keys would be to just hit F8 - type 'ke' at which points "keys" should be highlighted and you can just hit enter. No mouse necessary. As a 20 year user of FL Studio, I actually think I could have a chance at this run. I have a bit of an advantage though. I'm 37, and have been using hotkeys since I developed carpal tunnel 15 years ago. Got any other cool ideas to make this faster?
@wellox88562 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it is considered cheating or not but adding FL keys to the drumkit that you have the other sounds could also speed it up. I have tried it and it does work.
@wellox88562 жыл бұрын
Another tip might be to rename some of the different sounds like; ezHIP_Hat_4 f1HIT_2 zHIP_Snaph As you might want those in a certain order to speed it up. The hits, Keys, Steel drums and Snaps play during the whole song and by having them in the bottom helps to clear it up a little.

TBH.. anyone who uses FL Studio or maybe even Ableton needs to do this challenge or even make new ones. I personally think that it makes for great practice, especially when it comes to learning key binds and workflow tips. You would come out with potentially a world record or even a personal best, the award is your new skills.
@neek012 жыл бұрын
I honestly always use every shortcut possible, maybe it’s just due to me being a programmer professionally and doing music on the side, but i rarely even touch my mouse while making music in FL. Though Ableton and FL can and should really learn from other DAWs such as Bitwig. Like why can’t you set custom shortcuts in either of them, it’s 2022 ffs

I wasn't a particularly big Soulja Boy fan but his 'success story' is essentially what convinced me that I could make music. I am pretty sure he was the reason I got FL because I had seen it in a little interview or something.

Some tips for being even faster: Insert FL Keys quicker - Hit F8 -> double-click "Keys" (once you memorize where it is in the list, it's tough to beat it) OR Hit F8 -> type 'keys', hit enter. || Hit '+' button on the bottom of the channel rack -> F -> Enter You can use shift + arrow keys to rearrange notes on ALL clips, or select one first and adjust it (good for the issue you had with the kicks where you had to accurately drag it 2 bars shorter). This method depends on the snapping size, so the bigger the snapping, the less times you need to hit the arrow key. Also, faster way to use the Slice tool (which you would normally use with 'C') - Hold down RIGHT-shift and left-click/drag. Right-shift has an entirely different set of shortcuts from left-shift. Will update with more I find useful.
