Man it was nice to study a one page poem and only do a 13 minute video after the previous two mammoths. I don't know about you, but I found this poem a little confusing when I first read it. But I think that when you make the effort to break it down it's actually fairly simple and has a really nice message. Woo!
~~ The Boring Links and Info Bit ~~
Read the poem in full here: www.poetryfoun...
I can add Closed Captions to the video on request. :)
Thanks to these resources for helping me make sense of this poem:
app.emaze.com/...
aboutrobertfros... (this has some SICK info about ole Frostie as a whole GO READ IT)
prezi.com/d3ne...
~~Phew It's Over~~
OK, back to what I was saying about the message. I love the idea Frost presents here of taking risks and being reckless with life. That's something I really try to embody and my worst fear is becoming stagnant (like the trees are in this poem). So lemme tell you what's been going on with me lately. At the beginning of this year, I did a lot of taking risks and a lot of being reckless; I switched to a different university course than the one I'd always dreamed of and applied for it, and applied for a new job which is really different to and harder than any job I've done before.
Now, I'm dealing with the aftermath. And it's pretty freaking amazing. There is not one day I regret applying for Drama instead of English Literature - even though I'm not as natural or confident in it as a subject. It was a risk for me to go from applying for a subject a have A* grades in to one I have no qualifications in at all. But I did it anyway, because I wanted to. So far I've managed to get three offers, including one from my top choice. (!!!!!!) And I got the new job! It's at an outdoor activity place and I absolutely love it. If nothing else, it's the perfect contrast to the long hours of studying indoors and sitting down I have coming up over the next few months as my exams loom ever closer.
When you look at all this, you'd probably say the risks paid off. And they have, and I'm really proud of myself and excited for what's coming next.
...But this risk-taking hasn't been all good. It's scarier, harder and more demanding than taking the easy road. As I said, this month I've been dealing with the aftermath of taking those risks, which in concrete terms means I've been going to uni audition workshops and interviews, and training for my new job. On the outside, it's been awesome and inspiring and vivid. But on the inside? Honestly, I think I've been feeling more and more insecure as February goes on.
I'm telling you this, I admit, mainly for personal therapy (lol). But also because I don't want you to think anyone's life is perfect, or that your life will ever be perfect. It won't. It will be incredible and wild and eventful, I'm sure. But it won't be perfect.
Taking risks, in my experience, is really really freaking great. But trying new things also comes with learning curves, embarrassment and being the least experienced person in the room. A lot. I guess I just wanted to lament here how much that's shaken my self-confidence. No this does not relate to the poem or anything and I'm actually shocked if anyone is reading this... but hey, a girl can use her KZbin description for anything she damn well pleases. :D
Things are objectively going well for me right now. But I feel really insecure about my skills in Drama and how self-conscious I am. I'm terrified of screwing up my new job and causing someone to be injured or have a bad experience at the company because of me. It's even started breeding insecurity about my social skills, my appearance, my support system and whether I am the person I want to be.
hhhuuuuuurrggggggggghhhhhhhh
So yeah. Hopefully that doesn't sound too dire and self-pitying. I'm doing OK really... but insecurity is ever so slightly plaguing my life. That's why it's called the "comfort" zone I guess. I'm outside it and I'm uncomfortable, but that's what's supposed to happen. You have to be uncomfortable if you want to make real change and grow into someone new.
I hope you're doing OK too. Let me know in the comments, I'm always here for a chat. :)

I was wondering how do you manage to stay motivated and get work done without procrastinating/ when you're your own boss? Lately I've just not been able to sit and work, and find it really hard to stick to a schedule and get my work done, especially not having a teacher to check up on my work sometimes I "leave work till later" and don't end up doing it. (Coming from a home schooled year 12 student) do you have any tips?

K.M A Really sorry to hear you’re struggling but thank you for the comment and I’m really flattered you came to me for advice! I think you’ve actually inspired me to make an entire video on this topic. Will try and get it up asap. But for now I’d say it’s completely natural to go in and out of feeling motivated - don’t beat yourself up. Remember why you started and picture really clearly how great it’ll feel when you reach your goals. Year 12 is really really rough and it was when I had my lowest dip in motivation, so a good thing to do as well is to expand your life OUTSIDE of studying. Give yourself other reasons to get up in the morning and other reasons to be excited about being you. Be patient and optimistic and remember it won’t last forever. You’re doing great. x

HELLO!!! I wanted to ask u two more questions which were bothering me a lot!!! 1) In passage based questions, whatever the questions come, do i have to analysis like this, instead of separating the form and tone and join everything together? 2) Can you tell me good sites which will help me in passage based questions for twelfth night and henry 4 part 2?
@daizchalkx8490
@daizchalkx8490 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey! Now remember I am not an expert but here’s how it works as far as I’m aware... Essays for passage questions aren’t really any different to any other English essays. The only difference is that you’re centring your essay around a particular part of the text (the “passage”) rather than around a character or theme. So you’re expected to demonstrate the same knowledge and skills as in the non-passage questions. That’s things like awareness of the text as a whole, understanding of each of the key characters and themes and how they contribute to the piece, ability to discuss possible interpretations and present your opinion, and awareness of the literary devices, form and tone (as you said). In terms of how it’s structured, I don’t think they’re looking for anything in particular except that you DO structure it clearly. You want to always have a clear introduction and conclusion and each paragraph in between should be about something distinct. Whether that’s different characters, themes, techniques used, whatever - that’s up to you. If splitting it into form/tone/themes/ meaning paragraphs like I tend to in these videos is the easiest structure for you, I’d say go ahead and do that. You don’t need to be super strict about it (for example if a comment about the language goes well in the tone paragraph, don’t be afraid to put that in) - as long as the paragraphs are distinct you should be fine. As for resources, I find Shmoop, Sparknotes and LitCharts are always good. I remember using a free trial on enotes for Henry IV part 2 as well, that’s got some pretty good info. Introductions/commentaries in the front of the book can be useful too. And this is pretty obvious but for plays it’s always great to see them at the theatre or at least see movie adaptations to see how it comes across in performance, and give you some ideas about possible interpretations. Plus it just makes it more memorable. I’m planning to watch the BBC’s Hollow Crown for Henry 4 part 2. WOW sorry this is like the longest comment I’ve ever written!! Hope it helped. If you have any other questions I’m always here :) x

@daizchalkx8490
@daizchalkx8490 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Try writing out notes and put it into your own words, and you might find new links or thoughts cropping up, which will make your argument more original. You could try looking at it from different angles as well - that might make you see the poem in a new light. I think the key thing is to try to be enthusiastic and interested in what you’re reading - if you’re genuinely passionate, writing about it will come loads more naturally x

@daizchalkx8490
@daizchalkx8490 5 жыл бұрын
Heyyy, so sorry it’s taken me ages to reply to this, I was kind of daunted by giving tips on how to nail an exam!! I’m afraid I don’t have anything on Americannah. I have read it though and dude, that’s a hard text to have to study! I’d say read the book as much as you can and make short summaries of each chapter if you have time - being really familiar with everything that happens and when will really help you out. When I was doing texts which I couldn’t find many online notes for, I looked at things like video discussions and Goodreads book reviews; anything where people talk about the book can give you a lot of inspiration. Don’t be afraid to just copy people’s points if it’s just for your notes - in the exam you probably won’t remember it perfectly anyway and can rephrase it. Try and get a few really cool snappy points or sentences about the book as a whole that will be fairly easy to slip into most essays. If you make it sound like you just came up with it in the moment the examiner will think you’re super smart! When you’re doing the exam itself, try to relax and don’t be afraid of making a point you’ve never thought of before - I sometimes find my best work happens in the moment in exams. Make sure you sound fairly formal and give your essays clear structure. Hope this helps! You got this x
