''The article mentioned that nine students from the Ural Polytechnic Institute had formed a hiking club and had set out in January of that year on a hiking trip up the eastern slopes of the Kholat Syakhi Mountains...''
Today’s phenomenal tale of terror is all four parts of ‘The Soviets Found Something under the Siberian Snow’, an epic work by Taxi Dancer, kindly shared directly with me via my sub-r-ddit and narrated here for you all with the author’s express permission.

Background music by me (freely available for use by other Creepypasta / No Sleep narrators):
/ dr-creepen

Other music used is credited to the wonderful The Dark Somnium (intro) and the fantastic Tanner Stokes (end credits). The music is used here with their express permission.
Video footage was made by me with whatever Go Pro Camera it is that I own... I hope you found it to be a relaxing backdrop for today’s story!

@@somerandomarmydude I was thinking the same thing. If my memory serves me correctly, Russia did get a somewhat large number of Jeeps in WWII but developed their own localized versions in much greater numbers. I'd say it'd be pretty unlikely in this time period but not impossible.

I would like to share this with you. When it's my daughter's bedtime I listen to either you or Horrorbabble as I rock her to sleep. The moment she recognizes your voice now she grabs her babydoll climbs into my lap and in no time she's asleep. Now when it's time for her midday nap I just play one of your stories and she climbs into her carrier/chair and dozes off. I think at 19 months she may just be your youngest fan :)

I am mightily impressed by the way the good Doctor was able to narrate the Soviet names and the German language phases in this scary spaghetti tale. I believe that no other narrator could have pulled it off so perfectly. Also, the Doctor's pacing and voice inflections could not have been done better, adding even more intrigue and tension to the tale. Again, this was one tale that required more research than it did writing and it was a great honor for me to have the good Doctor narrate it. No matter how many times I read and reread a tale, I always manage to overlook a few grammatical errors and this tale was no exception. The good Doctor was able to compensate for my errors like a champion. Very much appreciated. Cheers! T_D

The only thing that kind of irked me was the complete lack of patronymics and of endearing versions of the first names. I think it is not particularly common in Russia to address other people with the surname, and Sergey probably would have called Mikhail "Misha" if they were so close as kids. It's probably fine to have them call each other Tovarish ... too. Alina also needs to be Alina Ivanova, not Alina Ivanov. Both the patronymic and the surname get gendered endings, and both the professor and Alina would introduce themselves (or the other) with their patronymics included. Wikipedia says: "In Russia, the patronymic is an official part of the name, used in all official documents, and when addressing somebody both formally and among friends.[...] Use of the given name followed by the patronymic in Russian is always the neutral, correct and polite way to address any person except close friends, family members, or children - in such cases usage of the patronymic adds humorous intonation of exaggerated but well-meant respect. This form would be congruent to the Western use of Mr. and the surname for the polite and proper use and reference. Instead of schoolchildren calling their teacher Ms. and surname, the proper form would be given name and patronymic. For example, a teacher named Anna Borisovna Kopylova would always be called Anna Borisovna by her pupils. When addressing a much younger person, only the first name is commonly used. Individuals are addressed by their given name followed by the patronymic (e.g., "Mikhail Nikolayevich") in many situations including on formal occasions, by colleagues at work, by acquaintances, or when being addressed by someone younger in age.[...] In informal situations, if a person is called by a diminutive (such as Misha for Mikhail or Nastya for Anastasia), the patronymic is not used." Using this way of adress automatically makes the story more authentic sounding in my ears, or rather, every time I hear a "Mr. [surname]" in a story supposedly set in the Soviet Union, I find it somewhat grating. It basically screams: "An American wrote that!"

I was a Vulcan gunner during Desert Storm (basically a tiny M113 APC chassis with a 20mm Gatling cannon mounted on it) and I thought those Soviet made T-55, T62, and T-72 tanks were ten feet tall and bullet proof. Turns out, they were barely larger than my Vulcan and blowed up real good. Russian tankers have a hard life. Were you on M48s or M60s?
