I'm 25, in the military, and after PT while eating breakfast I watch the Spangler Effect. This is awesome, it reminds me when I used to start my day with Bill Nye as a kid.

Love it. Finally found a way to explain dribbling a ball to my science minded son! The energy transfer can explain how 2 people on a trampoline can be dangerous because of energy transfer as well.

The mass of the pendulum in the system is an independent variable and does not affect the system as a whole. So, you could keep 175 ml of water in one can and only add, say 100 ml to the other and the experiment would give you the same results since the driving force behind the pendulum is gravity, which is a constant. Fascinating transfer of energy though. I haven't set up this experiment myself yet, but I'm sure if we could see the connecting rope, it would reveal a lot just in the visual.
