I assume my issue is the ECM, as I replaced the coil, code remains and I can smell “electrical overload” on the new coil. But what diagnostic tool confirms?

Hello, I may be wrong, but I own a Lincoln MKS which to me is more like the Taurus and the MKZ more like the Fusion. But I'm not an expert

You are so helpful! I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what's wrong with my lincoln mks ecoboost. I got it cheap and work on my own stuff. 3 mechanics before I got it tried to figure it out and I figured I'd find the problem. MY head was too big to realize I was in over my head. But your video enlightened me to investigate the electronics. Wish you were local I'd take it to you for help. Wish me luck!

You said the problem was on the 5V reference circuit, that would require a 3 plug connector at the coil wouldn't it? 1 for coil control 1 for 5V reference and 1 for 12V. The MKZ I have here in the shop now only has 2 wires to the coil. 1 for control and 1 for 12V.

I have a hard time taking seriously an expert who thinks an MKZ and a Taurus are the same car. They are NOT, they are different platforms. MKZ=Fusion. MKS=Taurus. These are Ford's D3 Platform Cars MKZ & Fusion = 3.5NA. These are CD3 Platform cars, a platform designed by Mazda and adopted by Ford during their Mazda ownership. MKS & Taurus = 3.5 Ecoboost or 3.7NA. Another shop telling the shadetree mechanic that cars are too complicated to fix without an expert. Why didn't they show us the code? 50/50 their diagnosis on the computer being bad is complete BS and just a way to charge for a far more expensive part. $800 for the ecu as opposed to a $50 coil. Why not show us the code? Im not conviced the cars computer can distinguish between a bad coil and a bad ecu due to a bad coil. Ohh and it can cause a fire..... dont forget to warn us how dangerous it can be and the consequences of working on our own cars....
